Eddie Speech Impediment?

He doesn't have an impediment. If you listen to SVT he just sounds unusual. He definitely has an unusual accent for an american - sort of "old worldly" if you know what I mean.
He talks like he's from another era for some reason - in a really lovely kind of way."We have to change the concept of patriotism to one of “matriotism” — love of humanity that transcends war. A matriarch would never send her own children off to wars that kill other people’s children." Cindy Sheehan

I seriously doubt if he has a speach impediment - - haven't we all gotten stuck for words at some point, speaking in public? Just because he's a performer onstage doesn't mean that addressing the crowd will always be perfect, or any public speaking for that matter.... he still strikes me as "shy" (has to force himself to "speak" publically when he could easily just go from song to song without doing so like so many other artists do).0

I agree that at concerts, it's probably the wine.
But, as far as hesitating in his speech, I really believe he is just very thoughtful and mindful of what he says, and he chooses his words very carefully, giving each word the same importance as the last."This band has provided many people a soundtrack to their lives.." ~ CitizenRick0 -
i do the same thing when I play with my band if I say something. It's kinda nervewracking....from recorded interviews I've heard, Ed's very confident and strong with his words. I dunno....but don't quote me on that...0

My mother and i were listening to some boots and interviews from various years, and we both agreed that eddie has really nice diction. His speaking voice is really pretty, dare i say....sexy? Heh anyways i love the way he talks, it seems like he's so carful and delicate with the way he pronounces his words, it's so adorable.
But back on the speach impediment topic. I noticed a slight lisp as i was listening to the monkey wrench 98 recording. He had trouble with the "s" sound."But you see, you get more for your money with the big ones. It's like a two for one special."
That was the line I used when dating to convince girls they should like fat guys.

he's so beautiful inside and out,,,,I've looked beyond that....It doesnt hurt.... when I bleed
but memories...they eat me
I've seen it all before,...
bring it on cause I'm no victim.

Not sure what you mean by that, and I'm Australian. I think that the sound of Ed's voice and accent is wonderful and he seems quite articulate to me.0

When I went to my first PJ concert, I asked my bf what country Eddie is from because he seemed to have a foreign accent. Then, when I watch the dvd's I can clearly see that he has some problem with how his mouth moves to form words. Especially when he tries to use "th" at the end of words. I think that's why so many people have their own take on the lyrics of the songs,(besides the fact that Eddie will change them as he feels the desire). Anyway, I just wondered if anyone knows if I'm correct in what I see and hear. I do think he has an amazing voice and I think the speech thing adds to the mystique of the songs. When on stage there is a lot of adrenaline flowing through you... I would say he's just anxious... it's hard to control excitement when standing in front of thousands of fans0

I agree with what someone else posted, he does seem to have a southern twang, that could be the travel/touring.
On SVT, where they're talking about the ebow, and he says "its just such a sound", theres a definate curl on "sound".'The more I studied religions the more I am convinced that man never worshipped anything but himself.' - Sir Richard Francis Burton0 -
Heather, Heather, Heather- such blasphemy! He tends to mumble, but I don't think that's an actual speech impediment- it probably evolved over years of grinding his molars together in angst!
But seriously, there are some times I hear a midwest/chicago accent in his speaking voice, which makes sense since he was born and grew up there for the most part, as I understand it. Like, some of his "O"s are soft where we here in NJ might say ot more as "AW". If you read 5 Against 1, Kim Neely says that Ed's voice is rich and deep and he almost sounds like he's from another time. I just know I love his voice, no matter what.
PS- One of my favorite recordings of his speaking voice is the boot of the 2nd Monkeywrench Radio broadcast, where he goes through the whole "MW, MW, MW, Must We? Mink Wallet, Mundane Wishes..." If you can get a hold of a copy, you'll see what I mean. The sexiest voice EVER. >sigh<Life is the riddle

I think we should back off a second. its not eddies fault if he has. i know we are not having a go but if you did as many mushrooms as eddie then you would probably have a speech impedement aswell. vitology must have been a good year for ed. hahahahaFuck me if i say somthing you dont want to hear,
Fuck me if you only hear whats in your head.
Fuck me if you can, coz im not leaving here.0 -

I agree He definately mumbles. i think it's just that he doesn't open his mouth all the way when he speaks but the way he puts words together is amazing! ***daydreaming***

I agree. The combination of wine and being a very thoughtful speaker."You can't be neutral on a moving train."
