Donald Trump’s Mandate Is a Myth

Donald Trump and his allies have characterized the 2024 election as an overwhelming victory—and a mandate for shock politics, mass deportations, and the transformation of the country’s foreign and domestic policy. There’s just one problem: They didn’t actually win by much.

CNN’s Harry Enten reports that Trump is now under 50 percent for the popular vote, and his margin is the forty-fourth worst out of 51 presidential elections since 1824. Four Democrats won Senate seats in states that Trump won (Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nevada), compared to zero in the 2016 and 2020 elections. And while Republicans held on to their House majority, if results hold, their 221–214 margin will be the smallest majority in the 50-state era.

Trump’s appointments are not going to help with the House’s Republican majority, with many of Trump’s choices being elected GOP members. These include Representatives Elise Stefanik as his U.N. ambassadorMike Waltz as his national security adviser, and Matt Gaetz (who has already resigned) as his attorney general, among others.

Republicans will point out that Trump in 2024 became the first GOP presidential candidate to win the popular vote since 2004 and the second since 1988, but he will arrive in office with a narrow majority in the Senate as well—just a three-seat majority if Democratic Senator Bob Casey loses his seat, which he looks likely to.

Interesting. I've always pictured Tool as a down the middle band. Perhaps Maynard leans left, Jones to the  right (interests like wrestling, MMA, etc), Justin not American and Danny seemingly the type to not give a F. Probably wrong.

lyrics seem observational and objective to me. rather than taking a stand one way or another.

Haha!  Perfect analogy of where we are today.   And even weirder, half the country is good with our new moronic image.  But only half- mustn't forget that!

It doesn’t change the fact that the title fits! You can take a sharpie and erase it but it doesn’t make it untrue or disappear! Enjoy your Golden Age or years what that is

At least your fantasy can continue for several more years. You can still wake up hoping every day that Trump will be arrested and sentenced to prison! It’s a wonderful and fulfilling life I bet.

He was found civilly liable for rape. You can bury your head in the sand and pretend that this did not happen, or that the two dozen women who've accused him of sexual assault are all lying, or that he was literally caught on tape bragging about groping women without their consent, but you should really be better than that.

He was convicted in the one criminal case that went to trial. The documents case is as cut-and-dried as it gets. He, again, is on tape asking the Georgia Secretary of State to "find" the precise number of votes he needed to win a state to enable him to steal an election that he lost. All of these things happened. They are not fantasies. Pretending that they didn't is truly deranged.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.
