Word Emoticons

Because I either have a hard time figuring out what all the emoticons are that are available for this site or, more often, I find them limited or limiting, I have decided to start using what I call "word emoticons®"    I take the word describing the emoticon and place it between colons. Some will show up as typical emoticons.  For example, if I type "lol" and place it between colons, it will look like this:

:lol:       

But if I want something different, they will be word emoticons.  Some examples:

:disturbed:
:concerned:
:elated:
:prone to uncontrollable hysteria:
:inclined toward feelings of spontaneous insouciance:

I hope it will improve my ability to communicate more clearly.
:smile:         
(that's "smile" between to colons.)

    Right there with you, I just stopped trying.  I have friends/family that text with emojis and I have NO idea what they are and very little desire to find out.  I'm not ancient by any means but I still enjoy buying the newspaper, going to the library for an actual book to read.  
    Don't come closer or I'll have to go

    Yeah, I'm not good with the emojis on here.

    I.must say Brian I do like some of your descriptions or should I say word emoticons- 
    'inclined toward feelings of spontaneous insouciance'

    I think you can tell age and or use of social media by the amount people use.

    Yes, the classic and one of my favorite term,  :cool:  
    That said, however, I used to say cool a bit too often, so one day my wife said, "OK, Brian, when you say 'cool' too many times, you have to tell me a Mark story."  I have a million stories about my childhood best friend Mark.  So the process helped me to remember that my vocabulary is broad enough such that I try to use more varied and accurate descriptions for things I like or impressed by.
