This is cool as hell. I did not know that there was another record manufacturer in the states besides Third Man. Everything is usually made overseas.Attaway77 said:

Totally. New record from them last year, PJ & The Pumpkins this year. I'm grateful that my favorite bands are still together & making new music after 30-plus years, 40-plus for Metallica.pjl44 said:It's wild that those guys are around the same age as Pearl JamMay your days be long, til kingdom come.0

Are the Pumpkins "still" together, exactly? There's a quorum of original members now, but there have been times when it was Billy with D'Arcy and James impersonators, and sometimes with Jimmy and sometimes without. We All Believe said:

 That's 75%.
Do you consider the Stones "still together" with Just Mick and Keef as original members? (40%)
Or Pearl Jam with 80% of the original members?
Or Metallica with 75% (not even including the Mustaine situation)?
And there are dozens of other examples, most with lower % of original members than SP.This weekend we rock Portland0

His point is that James and Jimmy have been in and out for stretches over the years. With the other bands you mentioned the original members have been fixtures.Poncier said:

Yes, that was my point. As someone who once counted the Pumpkins among my five favorite bands-- maybe even top three circa Mellon Collie-- I don't see their career arc as similar to Pearl Jam or Metallica, both of which have been basically stable since their inception and neither of which has ever disbanded like the Pumpkins did. The Pumpkins also have not had a top five album since 2012. They've been in a massive commercial decline whereas Metallica and Pearl Jam are still major acts.pjl44 said:

And the Stones were thought to be done for good in the 80s when Mick and Keef were feuding and both doing solo work. Similar situation.pjl44 said:

Pumpkins were on the shelf for 6 years then had another 6 year stretch with no other original members besides Corgan. And that's giving them credit for the Billy/Jimmy years. Not remotely comparable to the Stones.0

I don't think I'm a fan of this whole 2 shows in a city and splitting up 30 songs sort of tour they are doing right now. Setlists are the same, I believe, in each city. So you can choose which night you want to go. But playing 15 songs a night is pretty ridiculous for a band with the catalog that these guys have. I know they are older and some of those songs can be very taxing. They barely played two hours
My brother in law is not very plugged in and had no idea that's what was happening. He saw that they were coming and got tickets for Friday night at Gillette. Suffice to say was pretty shocked when he didn't hear One, Sanitarium, Bells, Enter Sandman......
You're making your fans (unless you go to both) pick which group of songs they'd rather hear as opposed to just playing your hits every night. Seems odd.0

I cannot believe the last 2 times I saw them were 15 and 20 years ago but here we are. Those shows they played 18 songs so this is a step back but it's also not like they were playing 20-25. Every 3 songs or so they would take a break which really breaks up the flow of the set.CantKeepmedown said:I don't think I'm a fan of this whole 2 shows in a city and splitting up 30 songs sort of tour they are doing right now. The reality is with another new album the classics are getting increasingly sparse anyway. So do you at least want the chance to fill your plate over the course of a weekend? I don't think I've ever seen them play Orion before Friday.
While they're still very good there is no chance I will deal with a football stadium to see them again though.0

If time and songs are tight I could also do without the Kirk and Rob Fuck Around part of the set0

I saw them in 1992 and then again in 1996 and 1997. Obviously they've made more music since then. But even those shows were 19 songs (96 was Lollapalooza so a bit shorter).
And like you said, with all the doodling and breaks (which I get you need to rest) they aren't even playing for 2 hours. I'm probably just more "old man yelling at clouds" at this point lol. And my BIL said the same thing about the stadium. And I agree wholeheartedly. Gimme an arena over a stadium anytime. I'd even take a shed over a stadium at this point.0

There's just a reality with legacy bands where ticket prices and venue sizes go up while the performance quality inevitably ticks down. Eventually those lines cross and I have to tap out.CantKeepmedown said:I saw them in 1992 and then again in 1996 and 1997. Obviously they've made more music since then. Late to the Metallica live party. Was lucky enough to see them in an arena twice (Long Island on my 40th birthday in 2017, first time ever, then Albany the next year). Both shows were 19 songs, including the doodle lol.
I normally have zero interest in stadium shows. Never seen PJ at one. Had previously only been to one, Bruce during The Rising tour. Went with some friends to Met Life last year cause I haven't seen Metallica live that much, and because of the new record. I don't think I'd see Metallica again at a stadium show unless they were touring for a new record, and even then, I don't know. The No Repeats thing might be gimmicky in a few years. Might be gimmicky now lol. Maybe they go back to arenas for the next record.May your days be long, til kingdom come.0

saw them in 92, 97, 2004, and 2009. holy shit that's a long time ago.Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0
