    Definitely rent a bike.  I usually stay in San Clemente and rent an e-bike as well.  There's a few places to rent from in SC.  It's a nice cruise down to the show and you can park/lock it at the designated bike area.  Easy in/easy out.

    Great!  Nice riding back with a little buzz.  You do want to make sure you get an e-bike though to handle those SC hills on the way back..

    I wonder if Ohana and Bourbon & Beyond Festival will team up to get the same headliner to fill Neil’s slot, NY was supposed to play B&B the week before, so now they’re scrambling for someone else too. Could help if they can get someone to do two shows instead of just one.

    Maybe I'm wrong, but I wouldn't consider the road that runs along the coast there to be a highway, but I ride on the sidewalk there, there's also a large parking lot along there that you can ride in.  Also, the traffic at that hour on that road is pretty sparse.  Then about halfway down, there's a bike path that's separated by a guard rail that runs parallel to the road.  After that you hit a dirt trail that runs parallel to the beach and railroad tracks, you'll go over a little bridge which you'll need to walk the bike over.  The dirt trail will take you all the way to SC's pier, you can also exit before the pier and head up the hills to wherever you're staying.  It's very safe.

    Also, @Spiritual_Chaos I saw your comment on the Neil Young thread about having "no interest in the American west coast," and I'm kind of puzzled by it. The western part of the US, in my opinion and experience, is far more beautiful than the eastern half of the country. There are mountains, desert, giant redwoods, a breathtaking coastline. The cities have great restaurants and a ton going on, generally.

    Plus, late September is a great time to visit. Summer comes late to the west coast in general, and in SoCal September and October are known as "locals' summer," because the tourists and the "Zonies" (Arizonans) have gone home.

    That’s good to know because I’ve stayed north of the venue toward Laguna and riding that stretch at night didn’t look appealing. Just a bike lane along four lanes of fast drivers with hills and curves.
