Barcelona- where to stay?

Putting together trip details relatively last minute - basically a first time visitor to the city - where is a good place to stay that’s not hard to get to the venue from but also in a good spot to see the city?

    The best area is under a 30-minute walk from Plaza de Espana.
    This is because often, not on weekends, the metro stops at midnight and cabs are hard to find 
    To get up to the Montjuic area there are several stairs and escalators, so count a time of at least 20 minutes from Plaza de Espana to get up/down

    When I researched the Intercontinental looked like a good spot relative to the venue and city centre.
    To quote the 10C from Newsletter #8: "Please understand we have a lot of members and it is very hard to please everybody. If you are one of those unhappy people...please call 1-900-IDN-TCAR."

    Good reco but I would have had to book much earlier - it’s about 400 Euros per night now and that is not going to happen!

    I’m staying at the EasyHotel Fira which is about a 35 min walk. Also 5 min walk to the metro if you want to go into the city centre. Currently £100/night.
