I just spoke with my ex-bf on the phone; he's not a PJ fan and he missed Mansfield II for work, but told me he talked to someone who went to Hartford who called that show 'epic' repeatedly...I think it might just be in the vernacular now, or they're just THAT GOOD ! :)

Randall's was my only "epic" show before this tour.

I can't say that any of the shows I saw edged it out, but I do think Tampa and the MSGs came close. Best crowd I've ever seen at the Forum (and I've seen lots of shows there) and enough has been said about MSG.

All in all, damn near epic.

    :)

My original point was that no Pearl Jam show, or any other show ever, should be called epic. They can be called great, but epic really just does not apply. Did it change the world? No. Did it start a revolution? No. Will millions remember it forever? No.

The word epic is quite epic in itself I just recently found out.
    5/28/06, 6/27/08, 10/28/09, 5/18/10, 5/21/10

I reject your narrowing of the word's use.

If Ben Hur can be an epic motion picture than a PJ show can be epic.

    thank you

    ep·ic (ep'ik)
    n.
    1. An extended narrative poem in elevated or dignified language, celebrating the feats of a legendary or traditional hero.
    2. A literary or dramatic composition that resembles an extended narrative poem celebrating heroic feats.
    3. A series of events considered appropriate to an epic: the epic of the Old West.

    adj.
    1. Of, constituting, having to do with, or suggestive of a literary epic: an epic poem.
    2. Surpassing the usual or ordinary, particularly in scope or size: "A vast musical panorama . . . it requires an epic musical understanding to do it justice" Tim Page.
    3. Heroic and impressive in quality: "Here in the courtroom . . . there was more of that epic atmosphere, the extra amperage of a special moment" Scott Turow.

I'd say adj def. #2 is appropriate for a great PJ show, considering we're talking about maybe the best live rock band ever

Ben Hur changed the world? Thats news to me. You say you don't agree with me but then you don't say why.

Yes, I hate the word cheesy. So let me rephrase- when you say that a show was "epic", you look foolish.

I think he was saying your definition of the word "epic" was too narrow. I'd actually say it's incorrect.

Something doesn't have to "change the world" to be called epic.

There can be epic poems, epic movies, epic NBA games ... and epic PJ shows. In colloquial usage, the word has pretty much been equated with "legendary."

The Soldier Field '95 show, for instance, was epic.

Cinci '06 was most certainly not epic.
