I was just wondering about the show tomorrow night. I understand Newark isn't the nicest of areas (no offense to anyone), but I was just wondering what the area around NJPAC is like. Is it bad, or ok? Just wondering if it would be nice to wander and walk around before the show starts. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • I think it's a pretty safe area if you're packin' or you have bodyguards...

i don't live there so i'm not positive but from what i've heard, ya newark is supposed to be a pretty bad area. The venue does look to be pretty close to penn station which is supposed to be full of cops, so it should be much safer. I'm just going to take a cab to penn station to get out of the bad area, and then go to lower manhattan from there.

Just stay on the road (Mcarther BLVD) the NJPAC is on and your fine. Alot of big business in that area or Newark, and tons of people and police.

I asked some NJ folk about driving there - I was told under no circumstances should I drive there - it is not safe! Train is ok...penn station is full of cops but, there is a reason for that....it's full of a lot of beyond sketchy people too - my advice is if you're going to be walking around make sure you are with a group of friends and um...just be careful with all of the choices you make.
  • The area around NJPAC, immediately around it I mean, is fine. So is the area on the other side of the train station, where you can get AWESOME portugese food. Don't wander too far past those two places though. You don't want to go beyond Broad street. When there is a show at NJPAC (or the Prudential center) the entire Newark Police force is out and they are VIGILANT about keeping it safe. NJPAC is a great venue-but don't go too far beyond the immediate area or Ferry st for portugese food.

Stay away from Broad street, which is kind of behind the NJPAC. you can walk through the train station to get to Ferry Street if you want. There are a few small places near the NJPAC as well, I can't remember their names. Its not the way Newark used to be, just be smart....

Its fine to drive there. There is plenty of parking at the NJPAC, lots that are privately run but close to the venue. Driving is fine.

Just letting everyone know: Audi S4's are very known to get stolen in newark. If you happen to drive one do NOT bring it. My freind had an S4 and got it stolen while he was there.

  • if anything,it is an office type -desolate area after dark- neighborhood.

I was there a few months ago and felt completely safe walking from the PATH station to NJPAC.

Im sure at 630pm tomorrow, there will be plenty of people on the streets.
After the show, there will be people walking back to the PATH, which is about a 10 minute walk.

People are so ridiculous! There were so many people there last night who were afraid of any street above 90th! C'mon! You're there with 2000 other white kids, so don't worry, they'll leave you alone!

    LOL that is great.

But its true...if anyone has been to a show at the Prudential, they shine spotlights after the show that make you think its daytime. There are 10,000 people and 5000 cops...

Newark is very into trying to change is rep. Nothing is gonna happen if you are just smart, but you should be smart in any city anywhere, or anywhere period for that matter,
