Best 2008 Shows?

SqueamishSqueamish Posts: 27
edited June 2008 in Given To Fly (live)
Hi,

I am going to buy the official bootlegs of a couple of the 2008 shows. I can’t afford to get all of them (although I wish I could), and was hoping to get a guide as to what ones I should get.

So, what are the best 4 or 5 shows from 2008?

Thanks

I might be a little biased, but The DC show is far better than the rest! None of them are bad though. Pearl Jam did a great job of playing rare songs on this tour. I can't wait until they tour again.

    I say

    1. Bonaroo
    2. Hartford
3/4 MSGs (I don't feel one is better than the other, they are both decent)
    5. Columbia
    6. Camden 1
    7. Washington
    8. Virginia Beach
    9. Camden 2
    10. West Palm Beach
    11. Tampa
    12. Mansfield 1

I used the official ThunderDan measuring system which is sorta like the Imperial system of measurements in that it doesn't make much sense to anyone but me.

I still list Bonaroo #1 because a)it was a festival show setlist out of nowhere b)at the time it was incredible (and still is) because many of the songs had not of been played in some time or ever (WMA 13 years, All Night first time)...now you might say 'well those songs have been played since then' and although that is a valid point- I look at it as it's like losing your virginity- you will always remember the first time. Believe me those in the crowd at Bonaroo never expected to hear WMA or All Night or even HTI open the show and while that doesn't translate the the bootleg- neither does the loud crowd at the MSG shows that have basically the same setlists as the Roo did.

Why are so many people jumping on the hartford bandwagon, I was at that show it was a good show shitty venue. they played a good set but nothing to go crazy about. I went to 7 shows this tour including both msg's. I really liked the columbia show alot great atmosphere and band seemed really tight that night..

Whats with the complaints about the Dodge, its not that bad a place IMO. And as for calling it just a good show, Id like to know the next time you see a great one because in my 26 years Ive seen some awesome bands, over 75 different shows and Friday night was easily in the top 5 concerts Ive ever been to.

Thats great you liked the show but I would not put it in my top 5, but if thats your opinion then thats good everyone likes something different and that venue does blow. shitty sound it reminds me of jones beach.. I have been to alot of concerts as well.

It sounded great to me. But I was also in the Hollywood Bowl days earlier which is freakin humongous and outdoors.

Well it's not that you're biased so much as there's no other way for you to know how any of the other shows were.

I was at Camden I and DC.

Hands down Camden was the better show.

Like I wrote in the DC review the show just seemed rushed at points. 17 songs played in Camden were repeated in DC.

But maybe 12th row center vs. 50th row side stage had something to do with it.

Down with the lottery I want my seats back.
    Hartford 10/02/96 & 09/13/98
    Pittsburg 8/25/98 & 4/26/03
    Cleveland 8/26/98
    Camden 9/02/00 & 06/19/08 (my birthday!)
    Columbia, MD 9/04/00
    State College 5/03/03
    Reading, PA 10/01/04
    Albany 5/12/06
    Washington DC 5/30/06 & 06/22/08

Camden I was stellar IMO as was MSG I. The energy in the Garden that night was fucking off the charts.

Camden II and MSG II were also both phenomenal shows IMO, they just didn't have the energy or the vibe of the first nights.

Also present at both, a few points to argue in DCs defense...1. All along the watchtower. 2. I dont care to hear a laundry list of songs live at this point( after 30 shows!!!!), including Black- That said, Black from DC is easily one of the best live versions I have ever heard live or on a bootleg, PHENOMINAL. 3. Setlist included almost every highlight from Camden as well as a few choice extras. DC slightly edges the also great Camden I in my humble-ass opinion...

There is one way to find out and that is buying some of the bootlegs and listening to them, which is what I am doing. Maybe I will be wrong and one of the other shows will be far better, but just going by setlists alone I still like DC. Still none of the shows were bad, all of them would have been great to be at.

There are so many factors for different people...

It just depends what middle songs you favor...all the shows have rarities and staples...and then those are those middle songs that they play right in the middle...and really, they make the show...some may like Low Light, some may like Animal, some Not For You...so really it depends on which songs in that gray area you personally favor that makes the best setlist...Energy is a whole different thing mind you.

And comparing shows is tough..The Roo blew me away when it happened cause a lot of that was unexpected. But if you just compare set for set at the end of the tour, well then..my top 5 would go.

    1.Camden 1
    2. MSG1
    3.DC
    4. Hartford
    5. Mansfield 2

I think that every show is really good, and every single person has their own opinions of what set lists are the best but i really love these 6. and i know that the energy at all of these shows was so great, that they are must haves.

    MSG I
    Hartford
    Camden I
    Bonnaroo

    3. MSG 2
    4. Camden 1
    5. Columbia
    6. D.C.

    8. Camden 2
    9. Bonnaroo
    10. Virginia Beach
    11. Mansfield 1
