Hi! It’s my birthday! In celebration, we are releasing the second single from my upcoming Holy Dive covers album today: “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” by Poison. As a child of MTV this song was omnipresent when it came out. I remember learning the song in my grandma’s basement from a guitar magazine. Actually, I got the chords out of the magazine but all I had to play was an old out-of-tune piano in her basement that was painted mustard yellow. As we all know, there were many great power ballads in the 80’s. This is one that for some reason has stayed in my mind. I can remember the whole thing all these years later. And that’s a testament to a sturdy folk song. That’s really what a folk song is I think: a song we remember as the generations change.
