So... why DON'T Pearl Jam come to Finland???

Ok... so we all heard it on the DVD, and Finn's all KNOW that Pearl Jam skip us, going from Norway, Denmark and Sweden to Slovenia or Southern Europe... or just ending their tour in Scandinavia without visiting Finland....Why?? Is it the cost of visiting there for a day?
In 2000 they skipped the Nation of nearly six million, travelling from Slovenia to Sweden and Norway. They also once ended their tour in Denmark without seeing Finland, returning home for a show 2 scheduled months later. There are many Pearl Jam fans in Finland (see Immagine in Cornice!) Are they the only EU Nation NEVER to have had Pearl Jam???

However, with Finland's green credentials, their penchant for wierdo's who take off into the wild to live with serious ass brown bears, and their amazing never dying love of music, Pearl Jam SHOULD stop there at least once, before they call it a day! Maybe in the European Summer... ! Norway! Pah, EVERYONE does Oslo... No-One goes to Finland... But why??? It's a beautiful country! And the CHICKS!

Of course I understand your reactions and I DO think Finland does not deserve such an outrageous torture or "fast" - call it what you want! I was wondering if there are some fucked up promoters in Finland (just like here in Hungary) who doesn't give shit about music qualities... :(
Pearl Jam has played here in Hungary in 1996, since then they cancelled a show in 2000 (remember that legendary second performance in Katowice??? that was because of us!)
and after that there was no other PJ shows either. Hungarian fans have had to travel to Austria, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Poland, Great-Britain, Spain, Czech Republic or even to USA and Canada which were DEFINITELY quite expensive journeys for poor Eastern Europeans like us...(all of them were worthwhile of course)
And the list is pretty long btw
no Oasis since 2000,
no Metallica since 1999,
no RHCP since 1996,
no PJ since 1996 (once again!!!:mad:,
no U2 since 1993,
no Springsteen since 1987 etc.!!!
PS.: I reckon the curse is on us, finno-ugrians...;)

btw, PJ has been in Finland once. But there is no bootleg and i belive that no one from this messsage pit was there.

Man! What a low blow.... Anyway, as a good comment does, mine was meant to provoke a bit of clever thought and discussion... which it clearly has (with some exception)
And I'm actually Australian, so there goes that whiny bitch theory of yours, but travelled through Scandinavia and the Baltics, and my fav destination was Helsinki. Crazy people, great nightlife, healthy food, and several Pearl Jam T-Shirts walking around downtown... a beautiful, clean harbour city.
But I AM surprised to hear about the '93 show in Helsinki... I'll throw that up next time a Finn tells me we're lucky to have PJ in Oz every third year! Wonder if there are any Helsinki T-shirts or posters around... :-)

Really? Do you have it or how do you know that?
Hungary is one beautiful country, but my short experience resulted in a feeling that they really have a problem with tourists. I don;t think there was one native I met who wasn't trying to fuck us over. Granted it was mostly Budapest and the rest of the country might be better but even the train guards were corrupt, and I've heard a lot of people say the same thing.
I'm not trying to diss these countries, but it only takes one bad experience, or a reputation of bad experiences to make bands decide its not worth the effort.
I know the situation here, yeah, I feel ashamed of what happened to you, many people here have to learn about the basic rules of business/tourism and long term investments - unfortunately this situation is quite typical here in Eastern Europe, people work 10-12 hours or more a day (!!!!), pay terribly high taxes and bills however our salary is just 1/8 or 1/10 of the people in Western/Northern Europe. People want to get rich as soon as possible...
Personally me and my friends don't belong to that category of hyenas - I don't have money and don't care about it - only if Pearl Jam, Depeche Mode, U2, Rage A.T.M. etc is on the road, you know.
I am pretty sure these things have nothing got to do with promoting here, believe me. It's about the money that the promoters want to cash in by high ticket prices (as much and as soon as possible!)

It's not a huge problem to me, I would go back to Hungary, but I make a very quick decision to keep my hands in my pockets and spend the bare minimum. This reputation of going for short term gain from the tourists probably costs the country millions a year. You could say the same things about public transport in the UK. If I was a tourist, it would be a serious decider that a trip to Scotland becomes expensive and time consuming because the transport infrastructure just isn't here.
As for the rest of Eastern europe, I find them much more welcoming to tourists. I have issues with Polish tourist information offices in train stations in my short experience, and bulgarian taxi drivers are best avoided but in general I don't get a feeling of a mass war on tourists.
