That's true but ya know what nobody ever mentions? The Steinbrenner-era of the New York Yankees is by far the least successful stress of the franchise's existence (not counting the pre-Babe Ruth years). He bought the team in the early 70's, and with him as owner, they won "only" seven World Series. I put "only" in quotes because that's still a lot and way more than most teams have for their entire existence. But the Yankees won ten World Series from 1947-1962. So Steinbrenner's era isn't very successful by comparison (unless we're talking financially). But there's a perception that Steinbrenner IS the Yankees (not saying you think that). You ever see his plaque out in the Yankees' Monument Park? It's humongous. Way bigger than Ruth's, Mantle's, Stengel's, etc. He'll always be more of a Seinfeld character than a legendary sports figure to me.Johnny Abruzzo said:

There's a ton of revisionist history with Steinbrenner. While he "mellowed" and won a lot after returning from the suspension, the Yankees won the most games of the 1980s but the team reached the playoffs twice while constantly being mired in dysfunction that he created.Ledbetterman10 said:

Watching the playoffS, I was thinking my crappy Giants needed more Latino players, in order to compete. I was thinking of Houston, specifically. The AS game was packed with Latinos. Yet, here are the phillies, with an almost all white position group. Go figure.
I know I’ll see philly colors in AZ. there MIGHT be 1-2 d-bag fan in philly. I literally didn’t see an ATL jersey in last night’s crowd. I saw a few dudes applaud Riley’s HR, but they were incognito. waaaaay too many dodger fans in AZ. the AZ fanbase is pretty fraudulent.

when the giants lost out on Harper, I was meh. Not sure we were ever really in the running anyway. At any rate, I now like him waaaaaay more than anyone else who signed a long term mega deal i.e. mike, manny, arenado, etc.www.myspace.com0 -

Lower mentality and laughable. Two years in a row, you were savaged by a division opponent you were supposedly "better" than. Your big dick pitcher lost and was a zero.
I'd blow up the team.
Obviously you keep Acuna. Riley.
Throw out some of the others and go and get some winners and the right attitude
Running back out the same group isn't gonna get it done. They were lucky to steal that single game they won and avoid being swept.

I'm totally aware there was a (hugely successful) pre-George version of the Yankees, being an amateur baseball historian and all that. The 7 WS titles for George's teams are probably almost as successful considering they were in a more challenging era with all the expansion and more teams trying to win. Way back when some of the franchises (Phillies, KC A's, StL Browns, Wash Senators) were total jokes and there were only 7 other teams they needed to beat in the American League, so a well run franchise should have racked up a good number of pennants.Ledbetterman10 said:
