I only saw them live once.  Opening for Tom Petty.  I also have a rule to not judge a band that's playing an opening slot as most of the people are there to see a different band.

I will say at the Tom Petty show, more people were paying attention to Kate Hudson hanging out a the side of the stage than they were the Black Crowes :)

I saw them a bunch of times between 2008 and 2013 and they were just a phenomenal live band. You take for granted the bands that can keep it together and continue on. I'll go see this new version if/when the venues are smaller and prices are lower.

Saw them opening for Neil Young in 2001

Lions is a great album and they sounded great

Anyone able to locate where the 'signed' version of the SH&MC boxset is for sale?

Dammit. I didn’t see the signed version the other day and I already ordered the unsigned one.

U can probably cancel and reorder.
  • Reading Steve Gorman's book. Don't think I ever before read 150 pages in a day.

Lions and By Your Side are both better than Amorica.

I always liked the Black Crowes until I saw them live.
Maybe it was an off-night for them, but they sounded terrible.

At 2 points in their history there was not a better band playing music imo. Will not see them again and I am ok with that.

Love the Gorman book but that last sentence is bonkers to me. I love both of those records, probably more than most. But not only is Amorica my favorite Crowes album it’s definitely in my all time top 10. It’s perfection from top to bottom and the piano outro on Descending to end the album gives me chills every single time.

Thanks for the tip on this @Spiritual_Chaos I'm about 2/3 the way thru...good interview on both fronts - Chris asks good questions too. On a handful of occasions Chris starts to make Black Crowes-related remarks and Bill talks over him....I wish in those instances Bill woulda stfu and let Chris elaborate

    Amorica is bland and swagger-less.

I started this thread 19 years ago.  Fresh takes?  The new album "Happiness Bastards" is pretty damned good.

It’s way better than I expected but think it could have been amazing with Gorman & Ford.
