Looks like Will Johnson will be part of the 400 Unit for the foreseeable future. I would humbly request a Will solo set somewhere in the evening.

The hook is amazing. But the lyrics are heartbreaking and so real.

What a fantastic album, absolutely knocked it out of the park. "The old assignment" along with some of the other jams/longer guitar parts are great, really feels more like their show. I got and have listened to the Port Merch vinyl and the VMP vinyl, and I much prefer the VMP on first listen. Port Merch copy is warped and wasn't as clear of a soundstage. I also got a natural Indie copy coming from TX which I believe is signed, thanks to a shop hooking me up. Can't wait to see him in early August and hoping for a Ryman announcement soon.

Also hope Jimbo is healthy and back with them by then!
Did you get the red verision (Port Merch)? ... album is great, but it is HEAVY.

Yes, the Port Merch red was not as nice of a press as the VMP translucent orange. VMP was flat, PM Red was not. Red also just didn't sound as clear, although I will be cleaning both for another comparison. Haven't listened to the Indie natural variant which just arrived, signed!

Jimbo tweeted a couple of weeks ago that he would miss "the first couple" weeks of tour as he is/was dealing with some mental health things he needs to work through. He tweeted a bit more detail about the issue today, but not about any return. Hopefully he is able to make it back soon.

Loving the new album. Can’t say it’s his best but it’s right up there with Southeastern

The new record is stunning. His best yet, imo. I just wish he'd stop making Wolf Trap his only DC area venue.

Really liking the new album a lot on first couple listens, need to dig in more.

Your post here scared me a little, lol. How is Wolf Trap as a venue for shows?  I had never even heard of it until a few weeks ago, going to be visiting in laws in the area on vacation, looked up the venue and couldn’t believe Isbell is playing while I’m there.  Grabbed a couple tickets right away. Is it not that good of a venue overall or just located too far from you? Thanks for any tips for a first timer headed there.

I'm originally from the DC area and went to many shows over the years. It's  a cluster fuck traffic wise.

They encourage picnicking before you go in so you can do that before the show.
I think it's a great venue though a little wide at the edges.
The acoustics as I remember are perfect as it was designed for a myriad of musical performances.
Symphony, opera, jazz, rock, choir, etc
    Isbell should be awesome there.

Is there anyone else out there that writes in such a way that could translate so directly to a movie or tv scene. Listening to his albums, especially Weathervanes, I get that same “picture in my head” aspect as when I read a good book.

As a total album, with a little more musical  range, I’m not sure he’s topped this one, even with Southeastern.
