On the flight home from London to Sydney:

I’ve seen In Bruges and The Martian dozens of times, and will never get tired of either of them.

The others are new to me. I enjoyed Amsterdam and Living, but I didn’t think See How They Run was as good.

At the box office? No shot.
Mario weekend 3 will wipe the floor with EDR.
Hoping he meant in how much he enjoys it?
Gotta believe and Evil Dead film (even if Sam and Bruce are only EPing it) has to be better than a movie about the Mario Bros
Don't get me wrong, I liked the game as a child.  Even enjoy playing with my child, at times....but that is for kids.  Evil dead is badass book of the dead, love, sin, salvation, and humor!  (Will the Olds Delta 88 make an appearance?)

How did people rate Elvis!? Haven’t seen it yet. Going to watch it whilst on school Easter break.

I didn't care for it too much. Tom Hanks doesn't pull off the "old man with an accent" role very well at all IMO. And generally, the movie and is pretty average, but watchable. I give it a C+.

Not usually hyped for a found footage movie, but this was bananas. Same director as the upcoming Stephen King movie, The Boogeyman.

Only an hour and twenty minutes, was worried it would be a Blair Witch Project, where literally nothing happens, but definitely not the case!

This was much better than I anticipated. I’m a big Joe Hill fan, so happy his story got a good movie!

    How was it?
    My short review:

Movies of 2023, number 4: Evil Dead Rise

First of, there is no Sam Raimi or Bruce Campbell present so technically it is not an Evil Dead movie.

Second, I was surprised it didn’t have any connections to the 2013-film. I am also, since 2013, surprised by how they sucked much of the fun and goofy out of a movie titled Evil Dead.

In the subgenre of ”horror in the highrise” films, I have to say that Poltergeist III is the better one. Even with this one having qualities - like e.g. the David Fincher-aping look of the film.

    ***

I was kind of surprise also how not-scary it was. For being so violent, gory and with scary demon women. It was not really jumpscary or scary in the general sense.

    Thanks for review!

The “reboot” films definitely don’t have the jokey Bruce vibes. I can always rewatch Ash vs. Evil Dead!

I’ll hit this up next week though.

Afterwards, tell me if a modern vinylplayer can play a record from like 1924... (did vinyl as a 12inch format even exist back then... haha... Isn't it a 50s invention...)
