March Madness Team to root for

For all you college basketball fans out there, Kent State is going to the big dance.  Their coach, Rob Senderoff, is a huge Pearl Jam fan.  ( I know as I’ve been to many shows with him).  He listens to them before every game.  So If you’re looking for a team to root for, The Kent State Golden Flashes are a good choice

Kent State will face IU...definitely beatable. IU will either show up and win by 15 or go ahead early and then fade away.

I'm a big IU fan but they just are not consistent. I wouldn't be too upset to see a MAC team take them out. I wish it would have been Ball State though :)

A Purdue/Duke matchup would be a good one

It was fun watching Purdue this year (not so much the Big Ten referees who should all be replaced) .  They lost a lot of key players and were not picked to do much.  And then won the Big Ten by three games!

I think way too much is put on the NCAA tournament in terms of success.  I have a loser friend that will be calling for Painter to be fired if they lose in this ad-campaign of a tourney.

I couldn't believe they gave Painter that job but I'll say that he has done great there.

I did get great joy watching IU beat their asses both times this year. But I don't think IU would have beat them a third time for the big 10 championship. I couldn't believe Penn State almost came back and made it a game.

IU has gone through a fucking shitload of coaches so Purdue did good picking Painter.

Painter was playing at Purdue when i was there. I grew up in W Lafayette and went to all the games with my dad, so Purdue is pretty much in my dna. What this means is that I’m a mix of excited and at the same time I’m preparing to get kicked in the nads with another too early exit.

This might be their year to hit the final four. I know what you mean though.

My Dad went to Purdue...got his DVM in 1967. My uncle wasn't too far behind him. My son started at IU but ended up finishing his degree at IUPUI and got his bachelor's from Purdue.

I was at Ball State when they had their sweet 16 run. They lost 69-67 to Duke who won the title that year.

That was a kick ass time.

Paris McCurdy was actually in my finance class....he always sat in the front row.

My family has deep roots in UCLA basketball;  my cousins were student managers under John Wooden, and one is now the official scorer for UCLA home games.

    I will root for UCLA!

@Go Beavers . I went to Purdue as well for undergrad. I haven’t really been back to W Lafayette since. I still have friends in Indy so I have visited there a few times. My dorm was McCutcheon Hall. And when I moved off Campus I lived on Chauncey and then Pierce for my senior year. Small world.

Oh wow! My first year was with a bunch of slackers at Fowler Courts, which may had been leveled by the time you were there. My apartments were near you on Andrew Place and Wood St right behind T Bell. So many good memories from then that tie into all the music from ‘91. My buddies worked at Vons and would bring up any new album with any buzz with it. My friend lived above Vons, so hearing anything from Ten, Badmotorfinger, Nevermind, Gish, and TOTD takes me right back there to hanging out at his place.

I’ve been back many times since. The campus has really blown up, but still feels the same in a way.

If you were there in ‘91 I was there a few years  before you - mid to late 80s. Yes I am that old  :). I loved Vons. I bought a ton of records there. Was JL Records still there when you were there? I still have a key chain from there. The Stabilizer was the best bar. I know that is now gone so I am not sure if it was still there when you were there. Maybe I should get back there one day and see if my graffiti is still on the gum wall 😀.

Rooting for Houston & Kansas. I graduated from UofH, but have been a Kansas fan since the 1988 team - plus, I have a lot of family that went to KU. I wish I didn't have to work Thursday & Friday so I could binge watch all of the games.
    I LOVE MUSIC.

The Stabilizer closed before I turned 21 so I never made it there. JL is still there and it’s expanded into what was Alfanos. I remember going in there as a teenager and talking about music with the owner, Jim. He’d play different bands and was one of those pre-internet human algorithm types that would turn you on to new bands. Hadn’t thought of the gum wall in forever!

We were up there several times for soccer tournaments and tried to eat there a few times but it was always way too busy.

Scotty's Brewhouse used to have a location in W Lafayette....I tried their "Shuman Special" which is a copy of the Purvis and it is honestly really good. The peanut butter on there is pretty light so you just get the flavor but with cheddar cheese and jalapenos it was tasty.

3 a.m. biscuits and gravy! I had a Purvis on occasion, but then a long break since I haven’t eaten meat in a long time, and now I’ll sometimes put pb on an impossible burger. They have a Drew Brees breakfast, so now they’ll have to think up something for Zach Edey.

My alma mater, Virginia.  I took a walk this morning and ran into a guy and we were talking about the tournament (he went to UCLA) and I said, "I just don't want UVa to lose in the first round."  He said, "Furman is really good."

    Sigh.

As someone who grew up in Charlottesville and worked at UVA for far too long...always a great day when UVA loses!  Too bad Maryland had to go and ruin the day by beating my WVU.  Guess I'll go for Kent State now.

As someone who grew up in Charlottesville and worked at UVA for far too long...always a great day when UVA loses!  Too bad Maryland had to go and ruin the day by beating my WVU.  Guess I'll go for Kent State now.
I don't know who to root for.  UCLA (my other alma mater) maybe?  I'd like to root for a real underdog.

Are you still in C'ville?  I grew up in Staunton.

That's great.  He was almost the Gooch, though, with calling the 3 to win when there was 2.2 left.

This is why this Tourney is always great

The love he receives is the love that is saved
