Fine. But threading that needle is incredibly tough. I'm sure its possible though. But if someone looks up to you, theres a power imbalance. Their feelings toward you are influenced. Its incredibly difficult to tell if they are into you or just the idea of you. And in this particular case, the starts of these relationships that Win had, that came into play.
Every person w money that dates someone below them then?  Same thing?
Exactly. Chuck Klosterman wrote something like "Every relationship is fundamentally a power struggle and the person in power is the one who likes the other person less."

Ultimately it’s about respect for the other person. But I would argue money as a power dynamic is a bit more ambiguous. And stuff as a representation of money isn’t always what it seems.

11/19 San Francisco. Ticketmaster actually sent me a hard ticket. I'm seriously thinking of donating the ticket to a sexual abuse survivor organization, but not sure what reservations they would have about selling or auctioning it off.

Just sell it yourself and make a donation?

Now why didn't I think of that? Much better idea. Thanks.

It’s hard to believe how easily things can change for a band/artist! To think how in the 60’s 70’s this kind of behavior was totally dismissed as normal!

I just watched the Hunter S documentary and the interview that had him and Sonny in it and Sonny nonchalantly talks about one of the Hells Angels "beating his ol' Lady" and got laughs from the crowd...

We have come a long way since then.

Well if you watch film footage, a lot of them were willing and able...  What a weird time.  Even wall street movies showed that.  It was the decade of excess.

If I didn’t have a young daughter and plans away this weekend I would have done both.

Neon Bible has always been my favorite but at least I’ve heard it all live before already.

I ended up going to both shows and while the arena show was absolutely awesome enough to make me go the second night, the Hammerstein show was one the best shows I’ve ever seen.

If you're lukewarm on the music, does the live show throw you over the top? Checking them out tomorrow night.

I have seen them since they played clubs in the early 2000s......I am amazed at their current ticket prices.....standard tickets in the lower level are $179 + fees......crazy!

I’d say it greatly depends on the crowd. Barclays crowd was decent and it was a good time. Hammerstein crowd knew every word and were going nuts. Band fed off that big time. The band will bring great energy regardless but a crowd that’s on fire definitely intensifies it.
  • Arcade Fire were incredible when I saw them live in 2010. Based on videos of this tour, it looks like a good show, but not the same without Will Butler. He was the best live.

    New album incoming!

Hope they play some WE songs on the next tour since I had to miss 2022 shows.  Kinda seems like an album they'll forget about though.

Wading in here as a woman and an AF fan:

The live shows are fun! I agree with whoever posted above that the shows are less emotional/visceral/organic experiences than PJ shows, but they're a lot of fun. Is there a self-conscious aspect to the shows? Perhaps, but to be fair I've read plenty of reviews of PJ that refer to them as "humorless" and "overly earnest," so maybe it's a matter of personal opinion?

With regard to the allegations: I think there are multiple factors at play here. I agree that whatever happens between consenting adults is none of my business. If Celebrity X cheats on their partner, that's their issue, not mine.

But the various flavors of power imbalance also have to be considered here. There is the imbalance caused by age -- if a 35-45yo man is propositioning a woman of 18-22, she might not know how to deflect the unwanted attention. There is the imbalance caused by size -- in this case, Win is a big dude! Trust me, it can be scary if a huge guy is coming on to you.

As for the fame/power part: This is a little more complicated, I think. On one hand, bringing forward allegations is hard enough in "everyday" cases, where both parties are "average citizens." Many women/victims never take action because they fear they will not be taken seriously. I think -- I hope -- we all agree that teacher - student situations and other cases of large power imbalances are icky and wrong, even if they seem to be consensual. I have a lot of exposure to the classical music world, and there are (too) many stories of certain people in that field who have used their prominence and positional power to coerce others and limit opportunities for anyone who resists or speaks up. I don't think Win has that kind of positional power; I'm a fan of the music, but I doubt I'd recognize him if I saw him at Starbucks, and I don't think he has the influence to ruin the lives and careers of the women making allegations.

Okay, now that I've attempted, pre-coffee, to tease out the shades of gray in inappropriate sexual behavior, I feel like I need a shower or a cleanse or something.

I will say that the accusations have left me feeling rather indifferent to the new album.
