Last time w the ban all it did was drive up prices for them. They weren't cheap before either.
I want to own something legally.
Also those 3d printed guns aren't up to snuff just yet. You won't be taking out zee Germans with one any time soon but it could happen.
And ask the parents of the young woman killed with a 3D printed gun whether they’re effective or not or law enforcement agencies that are seeing more and more of them used in crimes. Like I said, in another way, your right to bear arms won’t be infringed.
Cant a “responsible” person buy a gun kit and associated parts individually and assemble a gun and not violate the law?
You can do these things yes but the ends don't justify the means if you get caught. It's just not worth it. I would talk to people about these things and always stated I wanted to be able to own a firearm legally. Sawing off the barrel of a shot gun or making my own gun was never something that excited me because of the consequences. Why do something illegally when u can do it legally.
Federal law requires that a person or business engaged in the sale of firearms be licensed. A finished firearm bears a unique serial number and must be registered with local authorities. Additionally, a person buying a firearm must meet certain requirements (for example, not be a convicted felon) and submit to a background check before purchase. However, it is legal to make and own a firearm as long as it is intended for personal use only and the user does not intend to sell it. An individual need not obtain a license to make a firearm, nor must the gun be registered. (18 U.S.C. § 922 (d).) This includes firearms created with 3D printers, except in New Jersey and California, as discussed below.

Also when I actually read the gun magazines no one ever promoted doing any of this as it usually leads to trouble somewhere in the future. I have also lived in Cali and NY where they are strict. No way I would make a firearm and try my luck with it and say "But it's legal", F that.0

“Once those 3D-printed firearms are made, they're firearms,” Charlie Patterson, who is the new special agent in charge of the Washington Field Division for the ATF, said. “Those firearms are being recovered as we speak and are being used in violent crimes in cities.”
According to federal law, people who build their own firearms may use 3-D printing, as long as the firearm has some kind of material, like metal, making it "detectable." In order to sell them, you have to have a federal firearms license, authorities say.

I still find it hard to believe that if you are found in say Texas, w one of these and the cops not bringing you in on SOMETHING. A cop would not be doing their job. I wouldn't test these waters of it being "for personal use" . What the hell personal use does it have being in your vehicle?
See, it makes no sense at what is written as "legal". What is personal use? No way you get let off for wandering around w one of these.
This is a big ol can of worms waiting to be a precedent one day...0 -

It is legal to own them but not to sell them, as the article states.
I also have zero interest in building, assembling or owning one of those things. They seem to only serve a portion of the public who cannot legally own guns. The ability to make, or finish making a gun at home provides an end run around the laws that prevent criminals, domestic violence offenders etc. from obtaining guns through legal channels.
It wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit to see home made or 3D printed firearms banned. If anything, I suspect that they would continue to be used in crimes, therefore proving again that criminals don't care if something is illegal. If hope can grow from dirt like me, it can be done. - EV0 -
Clearly, the answer is more guns.
Why More American Children Are Dying by Gunfire
Toddlers are finding guns under piles of clothes. Teenagers are obtaining untraceable guns made from kits. Middle schoolers are carrying them for protection.

More details emerge about teen in Michigan school shootingBy ED WHITEYesterday
DETROIT (AP) — Two parents charged with their son in a Michigan school shooting failed to get their $500,000 bond reduced Friday, as prosecutors offered new allegations about the teen's hallucinations, passion for guns and boasts about violence.
James and Jennifer Crumbley, who are charged with involuntary manslaughter in the Oxford High School shooting, ignored numerous warning signs about Ethan Crumbley and instead bought him a gun that was used to kill four students and injure others on Nov. 30, assistant prosecutor Marc Keast told a judge.
In August, Ethan made a video with a different gun and told a friend in a message that it was “time to shoot up the school — jk, jk, jk,” Keast said, apparently a reference to “just kidding.”
The 15-year-old was fascinated with Nazi propaganda, even keeping a Nazi coin in plain view in his bedroom and drawing Nazi symbols in a notebook that was also used to make family grocery lists, Keast said.
Earlier in 2021, Ethan told his mother in text messages that he thought “there was a demon or a ghost or someone else inside the home,” the prosecutor said. “These weren’t one-time messages. He would repeatedly text what he was perceiving to his mother, who sometimes would not respond for hours."
Keast said the parents failed to intervene. He also said Ethan started seeing online ads about mental health after regularly searching for information about school shootings and guns.
“They did not schedule therapy,” Keast said. “Did not investigate what might be in his room, on his phone or on his (internet) browsers.”

What a great nation, ‘Murica. And “responsible.”
The sisters in Ohio, both in elementary school, were shot by their father. The boy in Texas was shot at home by someone in a passing a car. The ninth-grader in Arkansas was shot at school by a friend. The girl in Kansas was shot by a toddler, who didn’t mean to do it. The teenager in South Carolina shot himself, but he did mean to do it.
All of them were killed in an epidemic unique to the United States, where, on average, at least one child is shot every hour of every day. Many survive, but many others do not. In the nation’s capital, nine children were killed in gun homicides last year. In Los Angeles, 11 were fatally shot. In Philadelphia: 36. In Chicago: 59. Those figures don’t include the hundreds of other kids who died in accidental shootings and by suicide. Just how many were taken by gun violence last year will remain unknown until the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention releases its data months from now. But in 2020, the number exceeded 2,200 — by far the highest total in the past two decades — and 2021′s tally is expected to be worse.
