At what length does a record side really distort?

I have some albums with like 25-28 minutes per side and I haven't heard any difference. Obviously I do not have high end equipment and might not know what to hear for.
What length is really tooo long? And where is it just silly nerd talk?

No idea. I’ve got some that go all the way in that sound fine and others that start distorting with a lot of dead wax0

I'm not sure a lengthy side will so much distort as it will just sound weak and thin. I have an early pressing of Neil Young and Crazy Horse's, Ragged Glory on vinyl and side 1 is a ridiculous 34 1/2 minutes long with side 2 clocking in a little over 28 minutes. This record is a disaster! It has (I think, anyway) some of the best work ever recorded by this band and yet because the grooves are practically microscopic, the album sounds weak, thin, and lacking in the robust quality the performances deserve. This album is CRYING to be repressed on two LPs with nice, fat grooves!

But yeah. 35 min might be stretching it thin"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -

But yeah. 35 min might be stretching it thinIt is indeed! It's truly perplexing that Neil would have allowed this. One of his strongest albums comes across as weak tea on that early vinyl pressing! Is a double LP reissue in the works?"It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -

Ragged Glory came out in 1990.. so it is quite weird. Why not remove a song or two, like many vinyl albums did compared to the CD:s back then. If a double album was not an option.

It is, its supposed to contain Smell The Horse as well.
Hopefully we see ORS 5 this year because thats where it will pop up first. With all the releases he has lined up, I'm sure WB bumps a bunch for capacity for other acts they have.

We are presenting this in all analog for the first time, remastered from original analog 2 tracks under the loving care of John Hanlon. John has wanted to do this for years and now it’s here, coming in triple vinyl and remastered for CD and Hi Res from the original analog mixes. This will most definitely be the greatest version of this record ever made."
‘Ragged Glory - ‘smell the horse’ features 4 added tracks:
- Born To Run
- Interstate
- Boxcar
- Don’t Spook the Horse
Produced by David Briggs, Neil Young and John Hanlon

He should release a Road rock vol 2 when he releases the first volume again.
Kind of wish Are you Passionate could have been in ORS 7 instead of road rock."Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -
7 isn't officially announced yet, but thats what some think the breakdown will be. AYP could work in there. But yeah, RR could be expanded.0

I like Are You Passionate (do not own it, but once I held it at a record store in the Swedish city of Lund). The songs are also VERY GOOD live. As shown by the 2001 tour and the Stockholm boot from that tour he has on his Archives-website."Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0

Based on this reply I got last year, Road Rock and Are You Passionate will be in ORS 8 (probably with Prairie Wind and one or both versions of Living With War)…
…although with Neil, everything is subject to change!Post edited by goldrush on“Do not postpone happiness”
