Spinning off of the awesome Favorite Albums of 2021 thread……what was your favorite LP that you purchased this year?  Could be used, could be a reissue.  Could be a record you finally tracked down on vinyl.

Almost Famous 6LP Boxset.  —-Incredible collection of tunes and it’s amazing that they were able to license everything.  The book they include is great too.  I played these records over and over and it’s back on the turntable since a few Christmas songs are on it.

Tom Petty - Echo
Beach Boys - Surfs Up (70’s pressing. Used.  Sounds great).

PJ Benaroya Hall — I finally caved and a member here helped me out.  It’s amazing to own this after all this time.

Do yourselves a favor and don’t add up what you spent in 2021

I think I have bought well over 100 records since August 2020 or so. That was my pandemic hobby - every Sunday I hit all the record stores in walking distance to me - not to mention all my online orders. I will have to go back and look at what I posted in the "I just picked this up on vinyl" thread to remember them all. Then I will make my list. I am sure I spent a staggering amount of money.

Being semi retired has had it's pluses and minuses.  Plus is more time to hunt for and buy records, minus is less to do to keep busy and reduced income (which make that plus maybe not such a good move).  That being the case, I bought more records than usual this year- but some really great stuff.  But I just nearly had heart failure looking at my Discogs "collection" which list things in order by when they were added and oh man, I bought a lot of records (for me anyway) this year.  Thankfully, a number of them were thrift store finds.  My favorites of these are:

Neil Young and Crazy Horse: Barn
The Dream Syndicate:  These Times (signed) and The Universe Inside
Dead Moon: Nervous Sooner Changes, Unknown Passage, and Defiance
    Dinosaur Jr:  Sweep into Space
Death: ...for the Whole World to See, and N.E.W.
Joy Division:  Unknown Pleasures, Closer, and Substance
David Sylvian:  Gone to Earth, and Secrets of the Beehive
    The Shadows, self-titled
Willie Nelson: Ride Me Back Home
Oliver Nelson:  The Blues and the Abstract Truth
John Coltrane:  Lush Life, Ascension, Sun Ship, and Live in Seattle
Miles Davis: In a Silent Way, Miles Smiles, and Kind of Blue
Vince Guaraldi:  A Boy Named Charlie Brown
    Pharoah Sanders: Journey to One
Ornette Coleman:  The Art of Improvisors, In All Languages, Ornette, Song X, Something Else, and Crisis
    Lou Reed: New Sensations
Thelonious Monk, Palo Alto, and In Person
    Bad Company:  self-titled
Teenage Fanclub: Songs From Northern Britain
    Traffic: Mr. Fantasy
The Neats:  Neats, and The Monkey's Head in the Corner of the Room
The Rolling Stones: Their Satanic Majesties Request
    Carole King: Tapestry
Elmore James: The Master of Slide Guitar, King of the Bottleneck Blues.
Leo Kottke: My Feet are Smiling, Dreams and all that Stuff, Mudlark

"It's a sad and beautiful world"
    -Roberto Benigni

    For this year:

    1. the Grateful Dead Anthology box from VMP. Beautiful set. Paid a chunk of cash for it, but worth it.

    2. Way Down in the Rust Bucket - Neil and the Horse. This was worth purchasing solely for the cut of Over and Over.

    3. A few Jazz Dispensary compilations. Great obscure funk and jazz/funk cuts from the 70s/early 80s.

    4. A few releases from The Analog Africa label. If you like international/non-western music this label has some great stuff.

    5. Metallica - Live in Moscow 1991. Someone broke up a Black Album deluxe box and I grabbed it. My five year old thinks it’s the greatest thing ever.

I also seemed to have bought a pile of records this past year. I guess when you’re not doing much, or going places, you need to do something with your money.

That Metallica live LP was worth the box set alone, and the Black Album remastered sounds pretty sweet too

Christ, I've bought a lot of records during the pandemic
Didn’t purchase all 3 but Red was so well done.  So strange how she’s turned into the new Joni Mitchell or Bob Dylan or whatever.  Such an important song writer/artist.

Neil's "Way Down In The Rust Bucket" by far, an amazing release. U2's Achtung Baby reissue is also pretty stellar.

There was a good stretch early in the pandemic where I was getting a record a day. Then something similar has been happening but mainly because of record I’ve ordered between April and August have started shipping now. It’s not 1 a day, but 3-4 a week for past month and a half, yeah.

So I don't think this qualifies, but I bought an overpriced ticket to Our Lady Peace (Canadian band.) It cam with a promise of a live vinyl copy of the show (still waiting) and an NFT which included the new album that has a Jan 28, 2022 release. The NFT came today, to which I was able to download the album to my computer. While I still feel that I overpaid for the ticket, receiving the album a month early feels like I hit the jackpot.

For what its worth, its the bands' best album in 20 years. I think a few of us can relate to that. ---and when this ghost vinyl arrives, it will have been worth it.
