Anyone in this thread from Australia? Melbourne in particular? Just interested to know where you buy your new and used vinyl from here in Melb. Cheers.
Not sure about Melbourne specifically, but I’ve bought quite a bit from Discrepancy Records over the years, they’re in VIC. They can be a little hit and miss at times (sometimes the prices seem high, others you can find some really good deals) but I’m always keeping an eye on their site to see what they get in.
Awesome thanks @goldrush I was checking them out yesterday. I’ll have a look around post Xmas. Looking to expand my vinyl collection with some of my fave records other than PJ.
I’m pretty sure that I purchased it in 2020, but my Sade box set didn’t arrive until 2021, so I’m going with that for starters. Now they just need to get Lovers Live pressed on vinyl.
All the Margo Price releases I bought this year, too. I was late to that party—only discovering her in 2021 when I bought her first record on a whim to get in on one of those “buy this many records to get a discount” deals—but she is fantastic.
Also, the Sugar Hill Records 40th Anniversary box of pure joy! It finally sat on the shelf long enough at a Massachusetts suburban mall shop to get a 50% off sticker. Ain’t nobody but me buying that where I live.
And I didn’t want to repeat anything from the favorite 2021 albums thread, but I still don’t know how to classify Prince’s Welcome 2 America, so I’m putting it here, too.
I was able to finally buy a Dylan Rolling Thunder Revue box, so that goes here for sure.
Oh, and I’m way too pumped about the Ghosts of Mars soundtrack. It is fucking killer!
Finally, VMP has really come through with some hip hop releases this year—in both its Essentials and RHH tracks. Much love for that!
would like that sugar hill. Wouldn't drop retail bucks on it. I'll come by late tonight to borrow it. Tie up the dogs and leave the door unlocked.
Way too many records purchased this year but I think my favorites were from the Tipitinas Record Club out of New Orleans. Lots of great NOLA music (mostly live) that I would never had bought if I wasn’t in the club. Great quality pressings too.

Most Discogs sellers have it discounted now, too. But I knew that if I waited it out at the mall shop, they’d drop the price.
Did you pick up a Ghosts of Mars soundtrack on BF RSD?
(Also, just a note to RSD folks: If the stores are plentiful enough to have multiple suburban mall footprints, they should no longer qualify as independent.)
I was trying to figure out my favorite album purchases of 2021 so I wrote them all down. Turns out I bought 81 albums this year. It’s a sickness 😊
Now I have to narrow down my faves.
I started doing this early in the year and stopped around 10ish

I went through that in fall/early winter of 2020. I wasn't spending money on concerts and roadtrips. I was down because of covid, so I ramped up filling in my record collection. Topped up all the Petty, Springsteen, Zeppelin, and a host of other stuff. I fell like I bought at least 100 records in that span... sigh... It's slowed down again. Most because I infilled a lot of stuff I wanted, so there's less gaps to fill now.
