First they came for my 8-tracks. Then my records. Then my tapes. Then my CD's. Then the records came back. Then they came for my streaming. What am I talking about anyway???

Gets better with each listen as all good records do. I worry if a new record hits the spot straight away. Means I get bored with it quickly.

I feel like Harmonia's Dream could be another single. Little long though.

Favourite track after a few repeated listens is I Don’t Live Here Anymore. Love those vocals and backing in the chorus. Just sublime! Who else is singing??

They recently performed on Tiny Desk concert. They played the title track first. Sounded awesome.

    “Feel the storm coming on
Feel the darkness at your gate
    Live the loneliest of life
Keep on moving at your pace
Ain't the sky just shades of gray
Until you seen it from the other side?
Oh, if loving you is the same
    It's only some occasional rain”

Adam's not known for his lyrics, and if I'm being honest, some of them are a bit cliche.  But where he really excels is little lines here or there, placed perfectly, just as a song crescendoes.  That's why I quote the part above.  Right there in that song...perfect lyrics.

So its been a few weeks...

What is your favorite song on the album?  This will obviously change, as mine does over time.  But the one I find myself cranking the most is "Harmonia's Dream."

    Favorite parts of this album:
When the drums and the rest of band kick into Old Skin about half way through.
Every second of I Don't Live Here Anymore -- damn near perfect song. Possibly their best.
The little guitar solo around 4:20 into Harmonia's Dream.

I think this is honestly one of my favorite albums of the last ten or twenty years. It's so good. I kind of feel bad for MMJ because this album just totally eclipsed their new one to me. Wish there was more than a week between them.

I think my first instinct was: this album is a step towards mainstreaming, not "selling out" but changing sound towards a more mass-appealing sound.

Listening to all their stuff all jumbled together today, I think that was wrong. The new album is continued development of an amazing musician hitting his stride and gaining confidence in his singing and songwriting. If the album is lighter on the overdubs and jam-outs (which of course we all love), it's a huge amount of growth on the feels and hooks. Just awesome stuff.

I just love this band. And this new record has cemented it. Only started listening to them after the release of A Deeper Understanding. I’m now fully entrenched in the last three records. Haven’t ventured further back than Lost in a Dream as yet.
