Limited selection (not all shirts, etc) but yeah it was pretty dead when I walked past.
The best move to get merch is to enter the gates when they open and go right to the mech tent inside the grounds. We only waited 10 minutes for merch! The wait outside was crazy!

Yup. We were in line in the morning with some friends at the front. They grabbed me the posters we wanted and we grabbed our other merch layer in the day
