I apologize if this has already been a thread but i cant find it if it is - im interested to hear what people would say they think is the single greatest rock song of all time. One that epitomizes rock music at its finest.

I have two in mind so ill put both - Roadhouse Blues by the Doors and Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. Doesnt get much better then that IMO.
I was about to start a similar thread and figured there was one already...sure enough I found yours.  I like one of the two you mentioned for this as you hit Pink Floyd's best song ever.  But the Doors have better songs than Roadhouse Blues.

I always think its funny with this discussion because it is widely known and accepted that Stairway to Heaven is the greatest rock song ever, no doubt.  I do like the argument though and happy to throw out others such at Hotel California, Come Together or a handful of other considerations by the Beatles, and you can make an argument for Corduroy now that its over 20 years old.

Today?  From 1:12 to 4:22, Dinosaur Jr covering The Cure's "Just Like Heaven.  Tomorrow?  Who knows.

That is a great song but not even the Stones greatest song IMHO.  Give me Beast of Burden, Brown Sugar, SFTD, or probably a handful more over Gimme Shelter.

Since metals come from rocks, from there we might consider the greatest rock song to be Fripp and Eno's "An Index of Metals" from the album Evening Star.

This one might be contender as well:

The best rock song?  One could argue Jean the Birdman pulled it off.
