I apologize if this has already been a thread but i cant find it if it is - im interested to hear what people would say they think is the single greatest rock song of all time. One that epitomizes rock music at its finest.

I have two in mind so ill put both - Roadhouse Blues by the Doors and Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. Doesnt get much better then that IMO.

  • Machine Gun - Hendrix - the absolute pinnacle of rock music in my opinion. Hell, pretty much the pinnacle of music period as far as I'm concerned.

coming into this thread i wasn't sure what i would go with, there seemed way too many great songs to choose from.

but i think you hit the nail on the head. that song encapsulates what rock is all about, more than anything else i can think of right now.

    also, PJ's "Alive"
watch this video to be re-reminded of what rock is all about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_LQU2-GOXY

For me its Led zeppelin's Nobody's Fault But Mine - great riff, excellent harmonica solo and one of Jimmy Page's best guitar solos

    Black Dog

    But Born to Run too.

I'd say Black Dog is the greatest, Born to Run is the ultimate :D

Easy peasy......."Shamans' Blues" by The Doors. Who else, but Jim Morrison could effectively write & sing about indian mysticism.

Probably b/c it was my welcome to rock music and also, it captures melody with pure rage and adrenaline.....and yes I may get called on this, but

haha. It's strange to see that listed here, but after thinking about it, it's totally justified.

There are so many great rock songs, I could never pick a #1.

A whole bunch but the first one that comes into my mind is "Little Wing" by "maestro" Jimmy Hendrix

Good choice but I liked Motley Crue's version better. :D

For some reason it just came to me how much Johnny Rotten looks like this guy.

Top three, they are all equal in my head.

Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who (interesting trivia - on the '96 Kiss Reunion Tour, the big "KISS" curtain dropped and lights went down in synch with Daltrey's blood-curling scream)

    Deuce - Kiss

GIVEN TO FLY - Pearl Jam
