Night 1 that was the case. Night 2 they blew past the curfew and played until 10:47

Just checked the site to look at the set lists and strangely enough, besides being completely out of order for me, they count each tag as a separate song for the 2016 shows which they don’t do for the 2018 shows.  So really only two extra songs.

Fair point. I just remember feeling that same frustration in 2016, mostly towards the fans that were still filling in.  But I do remember the hype around Fenway ‘18 going into it because, if I remember correctly, the showtime was listed as 6:30 instead of the 7:00 showtime that was listed on all the other ball park shows and people were speculating a monster show.

Fenway 2 2016 and Wrigley 2013 were the two best ballpark shows I was at. Seattle 2 2018 is probably third.

I was still excited in 2018, excited enough to buy tix for, travel, everythng for 4 shows in 2 cities. But I was definitely slowing down myself and just wasn't sure how *I* would be at those 2018 shows.

And then Seattle 2 happened.  And I was like "Fuck it, if I band I first saw in '93 and have seen 50+ times over the years can play one of the very best shows I've ever seen them do 25 yrs later, I'm in when I can be in. I'm attending when I can attend."

Wasn't thinking I'd make it to SHN (also wasn't sure I was ready for a festival but Newport Folk Fest cured me of that worry in July), but the goddesses have been generous and off we go this weekend.  I think with Covid and 18 months to appreciate all that came before (while being terrified abotu what was going on in the moment, politically and health-wise), I approach this weekend cautiously, optimistically, open-ly, and mainly focusing on being fucking grateful me & loved ones have made it this far through this pandemic and that other things I value greatly are mostly out of the worst crisis mode they were in a year ago.

So hopefully I can only be pleasantly surprised, if not blown away, from this starting place....

Not saying it's for everyone, just chiming in with where I am right now.

Love to you all, wherever you are on your PJ journeys!

I wasn’t planning to go to SHN until a short time ago. An old Pearl Jam buddy from MA (I am in CT) and I texted about it.  He was going and a friend of his had a spare to sell.  He offered to drive and I decided to go.  I am excited to see them again.  It will be my 100th time seeing Pearl Jam.  A music friend from NJ and his wife are seeing their first PJ show.  I am excited for them too.  As for merch...I am not the biggest collector but have bought my share of PJ merch.  Not once have I missed any PJ music because I was in a merch line.  I don’t understand anyone who would do that.
    Happy 100th show this weekend!!

Here comes the name calling...must have stricken some nerves...and I'm insecure?  I'm just talking like everyone else.  We can still like the band right?  Sorry I don't agree with your pessimistic viewpoints.  Must be some sad lives.  I encourage you to take a walk.  Get some fresh air. The calm app is actually really useful if you prefer technology.
Do you actually read what you write versus other people?   I would read it loud.  By the way, you named yourself punk.  So I don’t know that it falls under name calling.
Do you think about what you write before you push send?  You are burned out but wish the band did this and did that and were more like another band.  Pick a side, it's very confusing.  It's fine if you don't like the band anymore. Leave the forum to the fans and people excited to go to the shows.
I'm just gonna guess that in your real life, everything is not as simple or "black or white" as "Either you're stoked for all that PJ does" or "you're done with the band and should leave the board".

There is SO MUCH ROOM in between those 2 ends of the spectrum. Real people might even go from one extreme to another over the course of a week depending on what is happening in their lives and how they're looking at their next show.

Sorry you're so confused by real people expressing real questions, real uncertainty, or real certainty that they are NOT excited or they are excited. Most of us live lives with layers, moods, waves going up and down on many many fronts.  And 18 months of a deadly once-in-a-lifetime (we all hope!) pandemic gives you a some time to reflect too.  And maybe evolve or realize some things you didn't realize before.

I come out on the end of "grateful and excited to have chance to see the 1st show since 2018", but I have all the patience and understanding in the world for anyone feeling less psyched or totally over it.  Not sure why it would offend anyone.  "Real fans" evolve or ask questions or can not like something, absolutely does NOT make them less of a fan although they may feel less of a fan and that's cool too.

Enjoy your ongoing enthusiasm, hopefully enjoy the next shows you go to whenever those are.  And maybe relax and accept that this fanbase has NEVER been made up of anything but humans. In all our flawed, beautiful, amazing, frustrating combos & complexities. <3

It's no longer on their twitter timeline (that I can find at least), but I'm pretty certain they sent out something the afternoon of Fenway 1 in '18 about getting into your seat on time for the show, which only added to the hype.

    Totally agree!

Take me back to that night please.

Thought I would be out of town so never got tickets.

Wife surprised me three hours before the show and just hopped into the car to Fenway.

Not thinking I was going and then seeing them was one thing , the show was just a whole other level of band and crowd firing on all cylinders.

Sometimes getting one or more of the epic shows can sour the regular ones.

I remember not being hyped after DC ‘08 and wondering if I should rethink my priorities. Looking back I had a good streak with VFC Reading ‘04, Philly ‘05, 3 stops of the 2006 tour and then Vic and Lolla ‘07. A regular show in ‘08 just wasn’t the same caliber. I saw Ed solo but didn’t see the band again until 2013. I missed a lot of good shows in between.
