Why are there four months between shots?jhager79 said:Was super excited when AZ opened up to over 40 here in Ontario and since I work in a grocery store with the public I figured I'd listen to the experts and take the 1st shot offered to me. Got 1st shot April 26 and had a few side effects but nothing major, all clear and 2nd shot booked for August. Fast forward to today where it's announced that Ontario is pausing AZ for 1st shot and once again telling people that Pfizer/ Moderna is better choice if you can wait. Also not sure if they'll have AZ for 2nd shot so might be a guinea pig for mixing vaccines. At least there are almost 2 million other Canadians in this predicament. Best day ever..

Yes, it’s pretty clear that the feds have decided to do it this way, for good reasons supported by evidence, and it’s working.Meltdown99 said:The 4 months between shots is not recommended by Pfizer …. The feds in Canada delayed it to cover for their incompetence and there was no evidence at the time on whether delaying the dose was a good idea or not. No other country did it, and I still don’t think any country is doing a 4 month delay…
My Dad is 86 had his 1st shot I February…still waiting for his 2nd shot.
Open the border. Let those of us who want get their 2nd dose in the US…

Where would you have purchased vaccines from that would have been better, then? Easy to complain and cry "incompetence" without offering what the solution would be. As it is, we're doing really pretty well now and for the past few weeks.
I blame the federal government for not supporting a robust vaccine industry in the years before the pandemic, when we could have developed strong capacity in vaccine development and manufacturing. However, once the pandemic hit there's no way to plan, build and develop vaccine manufacturing at short notice. The feds signed multiple contracts early on and we're getting the vaccines at higher numbers than most other countries.
When the decision was made to delay to 16 weeks there was already evidence that the vaccine was effective for 12 weeks and a strong evidence background within immunology to suggest that the delay would be beneficial, and in fact that has borne out.
Edit: And haven't you always been strongly in favour of completely shutting down the border? Are you advocating for Canadians to go to the US for immunization but not for Americans to come to Canada? Seems a bit one sided.Post edited by oftenreading onmy small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0 -

All eligible adults offered first dose by end of June and all eligible adults offered both doses by September sounds pretty darn good to me, compared to most of the world.Meltdown99 said:Canada to Vaccinate All Who Want by End of Summer, Trudeau Says - Bloomberg April 10th.

I guess Trudeau ’s “one dose summer” marketing slogan was a failure. So now we are back to getting fully vaccinated by September…he’s more of a snake oil salesman…but can you really trust anyone who wore “blackface” 3 times in the 90’s.

NH is doing really well with vaccines , I am surprised by how well we are doing , granted were I live is only 45-55 mins from Boston and being only 6 miles from the MA border maybe its just bleed over for the southern NH.JimmyV said:

Waiting for FDA authorization - that's the issue. I guess we can't export an unapproved vaccine, even if it's approved in the receiving country. But yeah they aren't all going to go to Canada. I do want us to send more Pfizer & Moderna to other countries - we are running out of willing takers here.mrussel1 said:

Oh look, a study showing that waiting at least 12 weeks to give the second dose of a Pfizer leads to an immune response that is 3.5 times stronger than if the second dose is given at 3 weeks. The strategy of delaying the second dose pays off.my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0

My nephew turns 12 in July and he feels the same way. Both of his older sisters have already been vaccinated. I am proud of him because he has been very diligent about wearing a mask.HughFreakingDillon said:my 14 year old daughter who is immune compromised has her appointment May 30 for the Pfizer shot. both my girls have been too. Mostly the youngest; she and her friends have been amazing all the way through this. when it was a friend's birthday, they organized outdoor, masked, and distanced "parties" for that friend to make them feel special on their day if an indoor party wasn't allowed by health orders (and that's been the whole time I think). They did it again just the other day; I dropped her off at the school park and she and 5 others had a little picnic outside, masked, one of them messaged on Whatsapp "don't forget your hand sanitizer!". it's incredible how a bunch of 11 year olds can adapt maturely and half of adults refuse to even do so.GlowGirl said:

she and one friend will play mind craft together while facetiming, so it's like they're in the same room while playing; constant teams meetings with a big group of them. I've been very impressed with all of them. never even any tears. Just "let's make the best of this and we'll get through it".Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0
