Why are there four months between shots?jhager79 said:Was super excited when AZ opened up to over 40 here in Ontario and since I work in a grocery store with the public I figured I'd listen to the experts and take the 1st shot offered to me. Got 1st shot April 26 and had a few side effects but nothing major, all clear and 2nd shot booked for August. Fast forward to today where it's announced that Ontario is pausing AZ for 1st shot and once again telling people that Pfizer/ Moderna is better choice if you can wait. Also not sure if they'll have AZ for 2nd shot so might be a guinea pig for mixing vaccines. At least there are almost 2 million other Canadians in this predicament. Best day ever.0 -
We are the only country doing 4 months between doses. Our federal government has screwed up vaccine acquisition. Only 3% of Canadians are fully vaccinated. Our dopey pm has created a slogan for the summer, he’s calling it “one dose summer.”mrussel1 said:

In Ontario we have stopped administering AZ because of the clotting and the unreliable shipments. But yes your right, it would have been nice if the US shared…dankind said:

Waiting for FDA authorization - that's the issue. I guess we can't export an unapproved vaccine, even if it's approved in the receiving country. But yeah they aren't all going to go to Canada. I do want us to send more Pfizer & Moderna to other countries - we are running out of willing takers here.mrussel1 said:

The federal government decided to go with a 12 week interval to maximize the number of people with one shot, which provides good protection. Vaccine availability has been spotty because we have to import all of it and there have been hiccups, but over 40% of adults have had at least one dose, which puts us 3rd in the G7 nations for population vaccinated. None of this has got anything to do with China though.Meltdown99 said:

The 4 months between shots is not recommended by Pfizer …. It’s Canada doing on its own…they made the decision. They can own the decision.

it’s a clusterfuck up here in the North…
id like to see the US border opened…I’d just cross and get my second shot in Michigan.

no clusterfuck here. sure, we didn't get a shipment of a 2.6 million doses all at once, but we have enough where we are now down to vaccinating 18 and over for all of the vaccines. been hearing anecdotal reports of some doses having to be tossed because they can't fill appointments. if there is anything that could be improved, it's that maybe they could have had a central messaging service that people could contact and be directed where to go. all we have so far is "you're eligible" text and you have to do the leg work to find out where you can get an appointment. I think that leads to a lot of frustration and people are just giving up trying.Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0

Yes, it’s pretty clear that the feds have decided to do it this way, for good reasons supported by evidence, and it’s working.Meltdown99 said:The 4 months between shots is not recommended by Pfizer …. You don’t have a provincial booking site?HughFreakingDillon said:no clusterfuck here. sure, we didn't get a shipment of a 2.6 million doses all at once, but we have enough where we are now down to vaccinating 18 and over for all of the vaccines. been hearing anecdotal reports of some doses having to be tossed because they can't fill appointments. if there is anything that could be improved, it's that maybe they could have had a central messaging service that people could contact and be directed where to go. all we have so far is "you're eligible" text and you have to do the leg work to find out where you can get an appointment. not that I'm aware of. There is a website you can see where appointments can be made, but there's zero information of if that facility has supply or not. Some of those facilities (like pharmacies) have their own booking sites set up, but it's all individual.oftenreading said:

But some pharmacies did have AZ and I think that was outside this booking system and a bit of a hit or miss situation.

maybe that was my experience. my wife and I got the AZ. so we were left scrambling trying to find supply.oftenreading said:But some pharmacies did have AZ and I think that was outside this booking system and a bit of a hit or miss situation.Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0 -
75% of adults with at least one shot here in Mass. Same day appointments and walk-ins available all over. Definitely hope this wealth of vaccine gets spread around.Johnny Abruzzo said:
