Personally, I would engage in honest dialogue with someone who trumpets their anti-vax beliefs. I would NOT start the conversation with "Hey Douche Canoe, .... ". I'd listen, and discuss. Chances are you won't turn 'em around on the spot, but you may plant doubt or concern in that person's noggin. You may give that person something to think about.
I'd tell them the true story of a family friend. He and his family vowed not to get vaccinated. Less than 2 months after telling me that, his wife spent 8 days on a ventilator. To my understanding she's better now, but I can't imagine those 8 days were emotionally easy, or cheap.
I'd share the fact that none of my vaccinated coworkers have tested positive for Covid-19 despite being in frequent, close contact with positive patients.0 -
Maybe the promoters know something we don’t. September 2021 seems to be the return of concerts

NY, NJ, CT, PA and DE have announced the end of distancing restrictions and have plans for the end of mask requirements. In PA our governor has been following the science for the most part the whole time, although you could nitpick some inconsistencies here and there. Anyway, I'll down a shot for your "both sides".lastexit78 said:
If waiting on the unvaccinated to see the light is the measure we use to get back to live shows go ahead and consider the most recent show you attended your last. Seriously, just not gonna happen. Best of luck to those who simply say “follow the science” as well. Science is being manipulated by both sides to the extreme right now. Look at the difference in restrictions from state to state. I’m fully vaccinated and trust the science, would attend a show tonight and feel safe. But that’s not a decision I’m allowed to make and won’t be for the foreseeable future. This is not a society of self accountability, was at one time but that ship sailed. San Francisco county is trending at like 20 cases a day yet restaurants are barely allowed to even be open. In D.C. you can’t even dance at private weddings. To expect full blown concerts anytime soon is comical. See you all in 2022 but more likely ‘23 or ‘24.Johnny Abruzzo said:

There will be concerts in 2021 and a full return to indoor venues in early 2022. We can argue all we want, but let me know in September when SeaHearNow goes ahead full force if you still feel this way.lastexit78 said:

Trey Anastasio doing 3 nights at SPAC in June... 30% capacity. Proof of vax or neg test, etc.
We WILL edge closer to more vaccinated people when they realize that they can't do some of the things that others who are vaccinated can freely do (concerts, travel etc.). A lot of Colleges/Universities will be requiring all students to be vaccinated this fall, 12 - 15 year olds will be in line hopefully next week... EV seems to have had a fun, worry free trip to LA for the VAX Live concert. Hopefully that will light a spark with the others in their weekly zoom meetings :-)...0 -

Of course private business can keep safety restrictions. We think Phila. will go along with the rest of PA, NJ & DE. It's quite meaningful.OceansJenny said:

Fair enough! However friend in Phila said the city has been behind the state and other surrounding states the whole process. She said Philly is saying “maybe mid-June”.Johnny Abruzzo said:

I mean, you can go to a restaurant and eat inside in Philadelphia, if they choose to let you - they just have capacity restrictions. Nothing is really "closed" so the whole "reopening" thing is a misnomer.OceansJenny said:

I do believe that SOME of the unvaccinated will become vaccinated in the coming months. But yes, I would also not hold my breath waiting for all of them to become vaccinated. My opinion is, the more the less scarier. Every shot in the arm is a small victory.lastexit78 said:

Restrictions aren't always enjoyable, but many seem like a logical way to get to the next step. We might disagree on the level of restrictions, or whether a particular state is acting appropriately, but I think many restrictions are reasonable. For example, I think requesting proof of vaccination, or testing negative for Covid-19 is a reasonable request for a performer to make of his audience. I think wearing a mask indoors is a reasonable request for a business to make of it's customers.
If people can't simply follow the science, should they simply not follow the science? You can't really manipulate science. Science is science. It's why doctors were so quick to shoot down the idea that the pandemic would go away "like a miracle". Scientists had no reason to believe that things would just blow over, and they declared so... overwhelmingly. If the politicians are trying to spin science, my hope is that people will hold themselves accountable to seek out the truth. If people don't, well that's on them. As for the crowd bemoaning their loss of "freedom", I think they're confusing the word freedom with anarchy. We live in a governed society. There are still rules.
All that being said, I think festivals will proceed around September. I'm not sure that EVERYTHING will go on, but I suspect most of it will probably reopen. The keys will probably be the great outdoors + increased vaccinations + encouraged mask wearing + the increasing threat of economic collapse. If outdoor events don't become consistent super spreaders, then I think we'll see large indoor events next year or sooner.0 -
