Well, if you live on the East coast, this would be great. Those of us who live in the Midwest or West coast might have some difficulties and a lot more expense. A flight from the St Louis area and lodging in NYC vs a 3 hour drive? Having said that, I would probably find a way to make it.
I’m in Toronto and gambling on the border reopening on top of all that.  But I’m not missing this show if it happens.  I’ll apply for a green card if I have to...
All you need to do is fly instead of drive.   It's only the land border that's closed.  Plus if the US reopens, we can defacto travel, because Canadian's are permitted to come home.  So if the US lets us in, we're allowed to go back.

In my case the major issue would be if they reschedule the Oakland shows before I'm vaccinated,, but I'm hoping it's a non-issue.
There is also the matter of the quarantine.  I want to see PJ at these fests if they happen, but do I want to be under house arrest for two weeks afterwards? Or worse, hotel quarantine with guards? What is this world coming to?

Quarantine seemed to work in Australia. They completely eliminated domestic cases and the instant one case leaks out of the quarantine hotels they lock down for the overwhelming ask of five days then they go back to normal. This might be the only way to beat covid.

They are having 70,000 fans at footy games right now, not 2022.

70,000. And that’s without masks. And they have two big cities with population over 5 million.

Regarding speculation on concerts retuning to America, I am paying attention to what doctors are saying about booster shots possibly being needed within a year. If that’s so, concerts may not be back until we learn to deal with covid like the few countries that have been able to successfully deal with it. Booster shot means variants would be defeating the current vaccines.
Well it sure isn’t working up here.  We have more cases than ever.  And increasingly protests in the streets about lockdown measures.  It’s not a good scene at all.

One thing I don't know (but I suspect I know)... Do other countries, such as Australia, have the number of anti-maskers and people traveling all over the country, or do people generally wear masks and stay close to home?
Almost all Canadian’s ( at least in Ontario ) have been following the mask mandate since last May.  I haven’t come across a single person not wearing a mask at any indoor public settings. We may bitch about wearing it but we still do.

I would be comfortable saying this applies to all of Canada.
Masks aren’t politicized up here (much) but I would say outdoor usage is virtually non-existent.  Indoor usage is decent but I’d say 20% of people don’t cover their nose or mouth with it which defeats the purpose, and another 10% or so use masks made of materials that block very little air flow and may as well not be there.  Anyway I am fine with mask rules.  That’s reasonable.  Restricting freedom of movement is a whole other issue.

I'm not sure I'm for restricting freedom to travel, but I feel what Atlantic Canada is doing is the right way to go.  Form a safe travel bubble with neighboring provinces that have it under control.  Leave/Join when problems arise.  Require 14 day quarantine for anyone entering the bubble.

It's pretty disheartening living in a tourism heavy area.  You've got the government saying don't travel, but there are no actual restrictions aside from no indoor eating at restaurants.   Any time we can handle on the virus it comes from back travel.  Either tourists coming here, or our own leaving the island and bringing it back.   We actually got to zero cases last spring/summer for a bit.

To me it feels like, what's the point of restrictions and being stuck at home, if some asshat is going to come visit here and spread it around anyways.   Basically travellers get to free ride.   Because most people are laying low and staying at home... it's not super rampant, so odds are you'll be ok.    However if people weren't staying at home, it would be way more prevalent, and you'd probably catch it.

I guess the travel thing bugs me.  I like how Atlantic Canada is handling it.

If you have a place with no cases then yes travel restrictions to preserve that.  I’m just looking at Ontario compared to neighbouring states and the rates are about the same.  So what difference does it make.

74 deaths out of 77 million fully vaccinated.  That is a scientific and humanitarian miracle.

    Infection rate of 0.087%.
Hard to argue with that efficacy rate.

And mortality rate thus far of 0.00096% after vax.
Again, real hard to argue with these numbers but we know folks will.

Everything is open here, cases are plummeting. No one wears masks.  Sold out concerts coming to town starting in May.  "Pandemic" aka flu season is over. Let's fucking guy with the rescheduling.
you test positivity rate has been climbing steadily since March 21.
they actually are not climbing. The cases I am guessing you are referring to are old cases from winter that were not recorded. This inflated the current number of cases giving wrong info! This is why we should not trust the media. Listen to scientist and doctors. Not the news!!!

test positivity does not equal cases.

I hope at some point the band realizes a US Tour is way more likely to actually happen in the next year than a European one. Vaccine distribution has been slow in Europe and to expect things to even be a full go by next summer is questionable at best. Meanwhile the US has vaccinated roughly 50% of the population and we already had a huge amount of natural infection which should be taken into account. Once every American has had a chance to get a shot we need to move on. Are we really going to hold up society because 30% won't take the vaccine? At that point why don't we shut down highways as well because 30% of drivers won't wear a seatbelt? I hope a large portion of stupid people don't perpetuate this pandemic another 2 or 3 years but I'm starting to think that's the likely outcome. PJ could plan a fall US tour right now and I'd attend, regardless of how many bumpkins are not vaccinated. Self accountability needs to return to our society. Those who don't want to wear a mask or get the vaccine shouldn't be the ones we are "protecting". It becomes pure madness at that point.

Bang - all of this. At this point we are all eligible for vax (16+) and give it a couple months and the un-vaxxed are by choice and I am not interested in protecting them. Any band should be able to do a fall tour in the US.

I'm guessing everyone's holding their breath to see if the covid cases start to drop across the board.   I'm guessing they're planning dates behind the scenes, but many bands (including PJ) are reluctant to announce the dates, until they know for sure that the vaccines worked and the pandemic is slowing down.

To me worst case scenario, with the virus still spreading out of control in countries like Brazil and India, is the thing mutates into something where the current vaccines have zero effect (right now they seem to give a low level of immunity, and if you get covid9 variants, reduced symptoms).    If something brews up thats worse, and the vaccines have no impact.. god help us all.

Short version. I think a lot of people are waiting to see if herd immunity kicks in before committing to anything.  People have been optimistic about time frames since the beginning.. but I think people are adapting, to the lets see what happens first thing.

Looking like it may be the first restriction free full capacity concert since the Pandemic (Tennessee has no restrictions)
