On one hand, celebrity elected officials, yuck.

On the other, I still think Texas is a solid red state. He's a conservative but I don't think a Q-anon MAGA. So I think I could live with with this.

I honestly don’t know why anyone who could just put the rest of their life on autopilot would want this, but he does come across as a genuine guy. I know he gets labeled a conservative but describes himself as centrist, which I would prefer.

I have no problems with conservative people. I have problems with people themselves.

I don’t know much about him personally, but have watched parts of recent-ish interviews with him, and he did come across as sincere and not paying lip service.

McConaughey and Stephen Colbert are good buddies, so I don't think Matthew can be that conservative.  I've seen him interviewed a number of times.  He seems like very smart, thoughtful- fairly well balanced and generally a good soul.

I disagree.  Legislative and executive experience are what got us here.  So far we’ve only had two tv sTars.  Trump and Reagan.  Oh yeah and I forgot about Ahnold, he didn’t do terrible in California.  Sure they are bad, but they can’t be blamed for everything.  I would actually like to see more people without government entrenchment trying to actually help people.  As for the rock, who knows...Jesse Ventura did a pretty decent job in Minnesota.

President of the United States was pretty much Barack Obama’s first real job, and he was better at it than most who’ve held the position (all during my lifetime). Plus, he had to fight an uphill battle for nearly his entire presidency.

Maybe community organizers should take over the US government?

you can disagree if you want. but we just had fucking trump, so that is the bar these celebrities have to try to clear.

the only reason trump was elected was because he was famous beforehand.

also, if ventura was so great, why did he not seek a 2nd term?

Because outside of the last 4 years status quo has worked wonders? Every politician starts as an amateur. Actor or bar tender, it doesn’t matter. Seems like for the majority the only factor that truly matters is which side the amateur picks.

My bad for misunderstanding that but what has been so bad of the “status quo” that you think someone with little to no experience in or with government would be able to fix? I have issues with past administrations and their policies but I’m not sure replacing them with someone who’s an actor or a bartender is the solution.

No worries. My point was that if status quo has gotten us to where we are, what is wrong with trying another approach? I don’t think prior to trump anyone would have considered the US a political utopia, and to automatically think anyone outside of politics coming in will be trump 2.0 is not rational.

you have more than a fundamental understanding of all of that. are you saying you couldn't/shouldn't do it? or is it just because he's famous?

the only thing I don't like about famous people running is that the electorate is stupid enough to vote for them for the sole reason of their fame; but the actor's fame doesn't preclude them from being a good public servant.

how do you know he doesn't have a fundamental understanding of how it works?
