Our local stations all suck.  Three are country, one oldies, a rock/pop/dance/hip-hop/soft rock/easy listening station that makes zero fucking sense from one song to the next, and a station that hasn't gone an entire hour without playing a fucking Journey song since 1976.

WNRN based out of Charlottesville. They play a wide variety of music and feature local and regional artists from time to time. A lot of indie but also some bluegrass, Grateful Dead, reggae, jazz, blues, classic rock... great mix.

WMMR in Philly. Ed has shouted them out 2x from the stage. still live 24-7 rock and roll station. 2nd would be between 97.5 Ben FM which is more of a mix and classic rock WMGK 102.9.  Now working from home all the time listen pretty much all day so like to switch it up some.  WMMR  listen to morning show and Pierre mid-days every day.  Then decide on afternoons between those 3.

Chicago has had garbage for years.  A new one 95.5 started so we will see.

Ed's favorite Q101 is long gone, the Loop was our last great rock station, and it is gone now too.

May as well stream if living in Chicagoland

No love for XRT???  That's a Chicago classic!  101.1 is still around with same alternative style format but they don't call it Q101 for some reason.  Didn't even know about this new 95.5 station.  But yeah, I pretty much only listen to Sirius in my car.

97.7 The Other Side of the River in Atlanta

no commercials, no djs, just alternative rock from 80s, 90s, and sometimes early aughts.

I can hear the following: Last Goodbye/Jeff Buckley, Feel the Pain/Dinosaur Jr., XTC, INXS, Presidents of the USA, In Your Eyes/ Gabriel (live 10 minute version), Pumpkins, Tori Amos, Veruca Salt, the list goes on.

Pearl Jam: in addition to the hits, I’ve heard SOLAT and Garden plenty of times.

It’s a constant education for my son. He’s always asking what the songs are. They do a good job of avoiding a playlist and I’m constantly hearing different stuff.

Great station & a really good mix of songs. Different genres & eras + lots of great local content. Very few commercials as well.

WFUV totally independent no commercials and the variety is well rounded! They transmit out of Fordham college in the Bronx! Never ever play glam rock or shitty pop or mainstream country

KISW out of Seattle.  The signal just makes it to Victoria, BC.   It's the perfect mix of Hard Rock music.  Always loved that station.

I do miss the days where cable tv companies would put FM signals on cable, so you could split the cable line to your home audio receiver and get all the radio stations crystal clear.   KISW is just far enough away that it can ebb and low in quality.    I do often stream it using a VPN :)
