#46 President Joe Biden

I freelanced for a nearly year in 2005, and it almost destroyed me financially. I only made about $10,000 all year in NYC, of all places, and I owed nearly $8,000 at the end of the year, according to my 1099. None of which I had, because I had been paying bills, eating, etc. on the measly $10,000 I made that year.
I went crawling right back to a corporate job after that experience. Sucks because I'd love to pick my own projects.

I said I wouldn't be sending random checks to people who may or may not have been effected financially due to the pandemic. What don't you understand?mrussel1 said:
Right, that's why they use AGI. It's too early for 2020 numbers and we can't wait.Gern Blansten said:
yeah and someone can have a 1099-NEC for $200K yet only make $30K net.mrussel1 said:
Huh? I don't understand this sentence. Non-W2 employees is a huge impediment to getting the right money to the right people trying to use 2020 income.cincybearcat said:
As I have said, I wouldn't be sending any check like this so the IRS point doesn't actually matter.tbergs said:
As someone mentioned earlier, that would only include reported income through W2. Either way, I'm not sure why everyone thinks it would be so simple for them to just pull all that info on a whim to send checks appropriately.cincybearcat said:
They should. And it would be better to send it to them and keep people in their apartments, etc.PJPOWER said:As far as evictions and utilities go, are the rental property owners going to get any extra $? If not, they should if they are having to keep non-paying renters housed, right?
I have been skeptical of the 1,400 blanket amount, but I honestly think it would be a more efficient way to just get it done so the rest of the stimulus relief gets put in effect. In the big picture of things, the benefits far outweigh the cons at this point.0 -
I think you need to amend your return. How could you owe $8K on $10K of income?dankind said:I freelanced for a nearly year in 2005, and it almost destroyed me financially. I agree, the properties owners are the ones that should receive those checks (if meant to be used for rental payments). I wonder if they could do a monthly “bill” program to the government for loss of rental payments or something. They should not have to wait until they file taxes to get relief for tenants not paying rent if they are not allowed to evict.cincybearcat said:

Yeah, I would dispute that...unless there are some kind of “other” penalties being accounted for that we are not aware of...Gern Blansten said:

Rental properties are not my main source of income, my "real" job is.static111 said:

I mean, if that were even half true, then couldn’t the same be said for anyone unemployed?
Edit: maybe you were being sarcastic? Hard to tell sometimes.Post edited by PJPOWER on0 -

I had a second accountant check it. I think in the end, they knocked it down by a little, maybe $500.Gern Blansten said:

A move from Boston to NYC added all kinds of complications to that tax year as well. I owed everybody (US, N.Y., Mass.) money, yet I barely made enough to live on.
Anyway I have PTSD, and when I see the digits 1099, I want to hide under my desk and cry.I SAW PEARL JAM0 -
Biden making moves in regards to soldiers helping the vaccination rollout, using Defense production act for Pfizer, tests and masks. This is terrific news, kinda surprised wasn't Day 1. I know we can walk and chew gum...but I want this vaccine rollout to the the first 100 things on Biden's to do list every day.hippiemom = goodness0

I was expecting it on Day 1 as well.cincybearcat said:Biden making moves in regards to soldiers helping the vaccination rollout, using Defense production act for Pfizer, tests and masks. Is it unfair to suggest we might have seen this sooner had there been more of a traditional transition between the two administrations?

Yes. Plus there have been a lot of reporting on how few doses are in reserve and how millions are missing, unable to be located by govt officials. So I'm assuming they had to solve those problems before moving on this.Merkin Baller said:

We had to figure there would be a black market for the vaccines too. I'm sure many doses disappeared and some people somewhere are lining their pockets. My thinking anyway.

Four full years of the POOTWH dismantling the functions of a government based on incompetence, whims, Steve-O, Q-Theories, government is evil and needs to be drowned in the bathtub and people actually think vaccine delivery and covid response should have rolled out better on President Biden's first day, never mind, 16th day? I don't know what's worse.
