there were TONNES of people taking pictures WITH FLASH. i hate that, people are so far away that the flash makes the picture darker, the light doesnt travel that far, dont bug everyone!
there were alot of cameras in there though, and security didnt even wanna touch me

cameras were everywhere last nite ... i'm torn on this ... great having pictures but seriously, the number of times i saw eds face getting flashed or even worse that red light digi's use ... it was pretty bad at some points ... i think people who do bring cameras should learn to take pictures without flash ...0 -
don't worry, i won't use flash. and i won't yell out stupid requests either, if you promise not to.

Awesome show!!
I'll write something a little later on about Night 1 but for now I'm too excited for Night 2 to even try and put something together
I have to be honest though...Some of the hecklers last night were downright idiotic and annoying. I heard some of the most retarded requests ever..."Black"? "Crazy Mary"? "Down"? all of which have NO CHANCE of being played. I wish these idiots whould just shut the fuck up and listen to the show rather than annoying the fuck out of everybody by yelling out their lame ass requests all night.
There was also some drunk knucklehead at the back of the hall that kept yelling out "Ralph Nader" for the entire show was really fucking annoying. This dickbreath should have been thrown out the minute he opened up his mouth.
Eddie kind of snuck a slyresponse to this idiot during the "Seeker" when he changed to words to
"I asked Timothy Leary, I asked the Beatles, I asked Ralph Nader, and he couldn't help me either"...
Any one else here that?0 -
oh man, the worst was this drunk ass right infront of me turning around to pretend to take a picture of his buddy (really taking a picture of 2 cute girls beside them) 3 or 4 flashes RIGHT in my face. worst part was that the security, to try and tell him to stop, shone their flashlights in his face... and mine...
still didnt ruin the show for me, such an amazing night. (again if anyone has an extra, pm me please)'98: Barrie

the worst was the chick that yelled "eddie" in the middle of MOTH ... if i ever get my ears on a boot of this - i will rue her ... in fact, I might learn voodoo just to be able to put a hex on people like this ...

The show delivered by Eddie Vedder itself was really quite good side from some of Eddie’s foolish banter and stammering rhetoric which became just that - foolish (maybe it's a when in Rome thing sometimes). For example: the joke about the homeless disabled guy was a bit much i thought. But as touched on at the top of this, when it came to the music, it was delivered in rock solid form as always, especially considering this fairly maiden voyage set-up combined with the profile of those who somehow managed to get tickets....
The crowd, sadly, was a touch on the clownish side, very suburbanite small town hero types.. men with frosted tips, foe-hawks, heavy on the cologne, etc... with some girls to match. This was about half, and managed to flat out dwarf the other half of normal people who like music. This audience seemed to have absolutely no idea what being in Massey hall is like nor were they versed in how to act a level above old Molson park standards. In fact i had to assume they all thought they were in some kind of old dump with Massey not being brand new, nor is it where the leafs play sub-500 hockey seasons... [(sundin's a bumb (first time caller, tony from woodbridge)]. As such, these gathering of visitors to Toronto used this venue as a chance to be heard and not listen, blurting out very stupid things; so bad that that one couple of obviously gay (but haven't come to grips with it) yelled "happy birthday -insert name" and "thanks - insert name" responses to each other whenever there was just a little silence which was not often. The crowd's A.D.D also came through in spades whenever Eddie spoke for more than about 20 seconds which made anything Eddie was trying to say that much harder and awkward for him and for the 50% normal crowd which felt like 5% of the total against the "look at me" no "look at me" mentality crowd in attendance. It was like the cast of the Growing up Gotti (a reality tv show) and all their people got half the tickets for the show, leaving the other half hopeless and helpless against the waves of idiocy around them.
On a not surprising high-note, Eddie paid very appropriate respect to the hall itself and to its traditions. Again, this basically went on deaf ears aside from applauding that followed because hey, Eddie just said something i think. at one point Eddie mentioned Bruce Springsteen’s name as part of a story i was barely able to hear over the noise of people yelling, then getting yelled at for yelling by other audience members, cont'd... anyway, during said story a young man in the crowd heard the word "Springsteen" and screamed out "THE BOSS, YEAH!!!!" thereby muting out the next part for all others and it seemed no one in this crowd could resist keeping the yelling streak alive.
Again to his credit, Eddie forced the crowd of yellers and hit seekers to sit through some anti-war folk and some less catchy stuff from varied other artist as you know, which holds his integrity intact, as always delivering the message he believes in regardless of who and where. It's about the music but sometimes it gets pretty hard to suffer through that level of BS to get to it in a live setting. Maybe it's just me - seriously.
God bless the man.

Well put. I myself sat beside a meathead is the front row on the balcony that was stoned off his gourd and was all over the place with his emotions and actions. He first started off with screaming and yelling trying to get the whole place to chant, then the guy crashes and practically falls asleep, probably in a weed coma, which then he gets the jitters and shakes all night long. Then the dude starts crying as he was "so touched to be so close to Eddie" being his favourite artist.
None the less, it made the evening pretty distracting.0 -

I saw that dude...on the aisle, big guy, green shirt? He was screaming his lungs out before Ed came out? Looked like he was gonna jump? I had a similar dude beside me in LA - he was saying how Ed was his jesus and stuff and it was the most incredible night of his life - he told me how he spent all kinds of money he didn't have to be there but his wife told him if it meant that much to him he should go...buddy then proceeded to miss 3/4 of the show at the bar. Security had to escort him back to his seat he was so drunk (as opposed to putting the dude in a cab, what they should have done). He then started to sob uncontrollably. Good times. I was actually fearful for our safety. $500 in the upper balcony at the Wiltern well spent, eh?0 -
Quick thoughts on this:
Arc was amazing!!!
(I loved it.)
Believe you me sounded sweet, believe me.
Parting Ways was really well done with Liam.
Liam and his partner were very good. Try not to miss them!
Man of the Hour was lovely.
Goodbye and Brokenhearted were incredibly sad.
Picture in a Frame was beautiful.
I was excited to hear the into the wild songs!!
Arc was REALLY great!!! (Yes I know I already mentioned it but I had to say something again.)
P.S. I feel sorry for whoever sits next to the dolt that was on my left. He not only loudly sang aloud with Ed, he was singing INTO his rolled up poster like a megaphone to amplify his voice. I could have killed him had I not been DETERMINED to enjoy hearing the concert.&&&&&&&&&&&&&&0 -
meatheads: put duct tape on your mouth to keep from drinking and yapping all night and ruining the show for everyone else. better yet, stay home.

in nyc people were being idiots too. from the reviews of the boston shows it seems like some people were real assholes. don't let that take away from the actual concert last night that was amazing!0

That was him; big guy in the green shirt. I had the non pleasure of sitting beside this prick the whole night. The dude kept shaking with the jitters all night, which was probably due to the weed. I felt like I had my wife's vibrator in my pocket rubbing against my leg the whole night.
Eddie Vedder solo at Massey Hall...when will you ever get a chance like that again? Therefore, I figured it's a great opportunity to leave the raucous behaviour to the stadiums shows and just sit back and take this intimate performance in. There's a time and a place.
I was starting to think the only right I had to be there was to be an obnoxious retard.
Glad to see there's a few of us here on the same page.0 -
