Do you work for Rolling Stone? Leave the camera at home!

Honestly, though, I really hope you can recover those pics. I just get aggravated when I'm at a show and someone in front of me is snapping away like they're at a goddamn wedding.

He was an asshole for deleting them, but a lawsuit? You people are nuts!!! I'm sure this is something that happens often enough when it's a security sensitive situation, or a place/time when photography is PROHIBITED! In this case, the OP could have been taking pics WITHOUT the flash and abided by the rules, but they chose not to. Calling and complaining to the Vic is reasonable, but you'd probably be laughed at for trying to sue.

i agree, threatening with a lawsuit is laughable. if it were me, i'd talk to head of security at the venue politely and see if there's a possibility of them paying for the recovery software. that's more realistic, if the software only costs 30-40 beans. and even if they don't, the software only costs 30-40 beans. if you went to the vic show and the entire weekend for lolla, i'm sure the software cost won't put you so far into the red that you have to file for bankruptcy.

A little intelligent foresight would have been nice. Hmmmmm, I have pictures that are priceless to me. Instead of downloading them where they will be safe, I'll take them to a show where my camera could be broken or lost.

Yeah you would have to be perfect to take care of priceless pictures.

more so invasion of privacy i think. you just aren't allowed to do something like that, even if he didn't look through the pictures. the reasonable solution would've been to ask to stop taking pictures. after that, maybe confiscate the camera. but he had no business deleting the pictures on there, especially considering we all know the camera policy. you probably have a good lawsuit here.

I love it when the amateur attorneys come out!
    :)

But I agree, it wasn't cool for them to erase the pics.

    Exactly!

I hope the original poster gets rich off the invasion of privacy lawsuit! Hilarious!

  • So were cameras allowed at the show. If not, then I really don't feel that bad for you. Your lucky he didn't keep the camera.

They were allowed. But the flashing was not. And it shouldn't have been used anyhow, as most people who take pics at concerts know flash is useless.
But this is definitely an ad campaign for backing up your files ahead of time.

You can probably get your photos back, they can usually be recovered from the memory card you used. just dont take anymore photos using that memory card or it will overwrite the files. contact whoever made the memory card and see if they have some free software to recover the files.

there is probably some 3rd party software out there for this also.

A security guy took my friends camera at the show in San Antonio---it was clearly a no-camera's show...he gave her the camera back after the show but took her memory card....

Is your memory that bad???.. I don't understand why people take pictures at shows. The pictures never do justice to the experience. Stop wasting your time being a photographer and live the moment. It's about the moment. Those pictures will NEVER do justice to how great that experience was. Put the camera down, put the cell phone down, throw your arms in the air and sing for gods sake.

how long did he have your camera in order for him to have deleted all of the pictures? usually when security askes for cameras they take the batteries out in front of you then hand the camera back. I ask this b/c I saw this post in another thread and saw the picture of the security guard you are talking about and he works for PJ. Don't think he would do that on purpose, actually he is a pretty nice guy. But I do understand PJ not wanting to go blind with a bunch of flashes going off.
