    Generally, I don't give a shit about her either way. I could care less that she doesn't like Christmas decorations or any of her non-required First-Lady duties. But I just keep coming back to this: "What if Michelle had done that?" The right called her a "man" and scoffed at a sleeveless sweater. And they like to suggest that we finally have a classy first lady. LOL.  Gee, I wonder why.

    Personally, I'd prefer the role of First Lady be diminished. Not because of Michelle, Melania, Dr. Jill, or anyone else, but because it's one of those traditions that I think could scare people off from voting for Mayor Pete or a woman. "Oh no, Mayor Pete's husband is going to be the first (insert pejorative). God's going to punish us."

    In the article, it's interesting that Carter was lower than Trump on his way out but his wife wasn't nearly as low as Melania. My guess is that some of that is rooted in the idea that Carter, while a very disappointing president, was a decent person and that reflected on the couple.  The Trumps are miserable, objectionable humans. That difference probably reflects on the two presidents as much as the first ladies themselves.

    I don't really see the FL role as anything but ceremonial and inspirational anyway; it's not like they inform policy in any way, shape, or form. It must, honestly, be kind of demeaning to an educated woman like Dr Biden or Hillary or Michelle to all of a sudden be tasked with decorating her man's castle every year. it's amazing to me that specific example of misogyny is still alive. 

    and those comments I see all the time on Barack's timeline of Michael Obama; so disgusting. 
    Hillary Clinton was appointed by Bill to head up the health care task force that produced legislation or a framework to be presented to Congress as a bill for a vote in 1993. Unfortunately, it was declared DOA by its detractors, even before it was voted on. Just imagine if it had been negotiated, revised, voted upon and passed and became law? Then imagine if it had been revised over the years to address deficiencies and made better? But yea, socialism and radicalness. 
    yeah, but that was an appointment. that wasn't tasked under the umbrella of "first lady".

    agreed...I can't keep the "what if Michelle had done this" thought from going through my head.  Melania has been absolutely horrible.  

    Reminds me of the hell the GOP put us through when Michelle tried to improve school lunches.  That uproar came at an odd time for me.  I had visited my daughter at her elementary school and had lunch with her.  I was absolutely floored when one of the cafeteria workers brought out this cart about 10 minutes into lunch to sell bags of chips, cookies, those plastic barrel sugared drinks, etc.  Probably 33% of the kids lined up to buy that shit.  One kid I remember at my table didn't touch his lunch...came back with two small bags of popcorn and a sugar drink for "lunch" and ended up tossing whatever was served to him.

    They did away with that soon after and I hope/assume it related to Michelle's program.  Apparently it was some PTO fundraiser which is disgusting.
