I think Cruz, and some others are hoping to capture the Trumpers and somehow the public's support of trump will transition to him when the Republican primaries start to flesh out.Merkin Baller said:I'm genuinely curious what Cruz & company see as an endgame in all of this.
Some are just riding on the Trump coattails, are a complete product of Trump, and will act out on whatever him and his cult want.
Some are uncomfortable with this and are planning on it receding like the tide and everything going back to 'normal'. But they still back trump because they fear Trump and his base turning on them. They have been trying to run out the clock for 5 years but it just gets worse, much of it due to their enabling.0 -
I understand these guys are trying to capture Trump's base, but this week they're not only undermining the constitution and our democracy, but also one of the basics of conservatism, that being states' rights,
I guess I just don't see this as being sustainable, at least not by any of these guys trying to take advantage of it... or maybe now I'm just being optimistic.

If the polls i've seen are accurate, 82% of republicans do not trust the outcome of the election as non-fraudulent. these guys are just following the lead of their constituents.Merkin Baller said:I understand these guys are trying to capture Trump's base, but this week they're not only undermining the constitution and our democracy, but also one of the basics of conservatism, that being states' rights,

In the day and age of everyone forgetting everything every news cycle, everyone can do whatever they want. There is no accountability, especially within the Republican Party.Merkin Baller said:I understand these guys are trying to capture Trump's base, but this week they're not only undermining the constitution and our democracy, but also one of the basics of conservatism, that being states' rights,

I think Cruz knows this will fail. He wanted to jump out there to look like he has Trump's back as well as Trump's supporters' backs. There is probably almost zero risk and a lot to gain.
Its likely at some point, Cruz will do or say the wrong thing and Trump will throw him under the train like he does everyone else. Anyone who is subservient to Trump is nauseating and spineless because Trump will cast them aside in a second.
Nobody knows where this is going to end. That is the scary part. I am guessing that the Republican Party will in fact war with itself. Trump or his kids will certainly try to run in 2024... and if not, some scary lunatic in the same vein as Trump. There is zero chance they win a national election as this one was a total blowout. Republicans are going to need to deal with this and cast it aside somehow.... but the problem is that the fat, entitled, coddled, media suckling, and foolish base that Trump cultivates keeps projecting their faults on inner-city blacks and millennials arent going anywhere.0 -
I guess in the end I still haven't come to terms with how much bullshit Americans are willing to accept from these people.

We have been overwhelmed and desensitized. Not to mention that a huge number of Americans just simply refuse to believe anything they hear if it doesnt match what they want.Merkin Baller said:I guess in the end I still haven't come to terms with how much bullshit Americans are willing to accept from these people.
In any other Dimension, the American public would have shown Trump the boot and held him accountable.0 -
the sheer amount of presidency-ending scandals had this been 20 years ago is totally staggering. and today, these stories barely last 24 hours.MayDay10 said:

I hope you're right. But I think without Covid, Trump beats Biden (of course in that scenario, the GOP would not have to be as traitorous as they are being now). I think part of what they're doing is trying to make it harder for Biden to succeed (country after party) by painting a fairly strong mandate as suspect and (for Mitch) just plain hamstringing him for January. In four years that promise to be crazy as hell, Biden will have a presidency on which to be judged and he'll be old. (Not to mention he likely won't run and the Dems don't have a deep bench).MayDay10 said:

The hope is that in four years, things have gotten back to normal, but American conservatives are angry (I still haven't figured out about what). And I think astute Republicans know that the way to get them engaged is to blame all their problems on people in America that are not like them. It's hard to imagine Kasich (or someone) getting the nomination in four years. It feels like it's either going to a Trump or a Trump disciple. Hopefully this cult being all about Trump will soften its fervor for Nikki Haley, Dan Crenshaw, or whoever. And hopefully the American people continue to vote in the numbers they did this time and the 60% can establish some dominance over the 40%. Because the 40% would agree to Trump family dictatorship for eternity if they could.1995 Milwaukee 1998 Alpine, Alpine 2003 Albany, Boston, Boston, Boston 2004 Boston, Boston 2006 Hartford, St. Paul (Petty), St. Paul (Petty) 2011 Alpine, Alpine 2013 Wrigley 2014 St. Paul 2016 Fenway, Fenway, Wrigley, Wrigley 2018 Missoula, Wrigley, Wrigley 2021 Asbury Park 2022 St Louis 2023 Austin, Austin 2024 Napa, Wrigley, Wrigley 2025 Nashville (II)0 -

"Without Covid, Trump beats Biden."
Give me a break, people. Biden led Trump in polling for well over a year prior to Covid happening. Trump had a historically low approval rating for his entire time in office. Trump losing reelection, was not difficult for rational people to predict.
Also, the Trump administration screwing up something like the Covid response was only a matter of time. He's an incompetent boob. Rational people assumed it was only a matter of time before they screwed the pooch on something like that since day 1, as well. Just so happens it took a few years longer to happen.www.myspace.com0 -

I have said it before, but IMO if you had an election any day since the 2016 election, Trump loses.
It was a perfect storm of a candidate who people were already fatigued with, a general indifference/overconfidence for Democrats, and a severe underestimation on the damage an election can do to a federal government.
Baby Boomers who are staunch republicans and evangelicals are dying off by the day. The republican base was already shrinking and they were in trouble nationally without adjusting their platform to be anything other than Abortion, 'Troops', and preventing 100% of our paychecks going to inner city blacks who laugh at us.0 -
No they were actually smart about how they ended it. Unfortunately, it ended up helping a dumb Giants organization and fanbase.mcgruff10 said:

Didn't it hurt the Giants and help the Football Teamers from Washington?
