Everyone seems to hate a team when they win more than once in a decade. I never watched a regular season college game in my life until about 10 years ago when I married into it. I don't dislike Clemson, at all.  They are not a traditional power but they sure as hell are a modern one.

Their coach is a dickhead.  Great coach.  Great recruiter.

I think he's just a good, not great, coach. But where he excels is recruiting and building his community. The kids want to play for him and want to stay there. The people under him want to stay there. Venables leaves and takes an offer in the NFL or as a head coach somewhere else, they may not be a championship team. Still great, but probably not #1. Its tough to keep all those people around and be a dickhead.  Either he's masters the skill of doing both, or he's actually a good guy. 

Urban Meyer never had a problem doing this.

Maybe. But it probably helps when you're in highly recognized and winning teams. But Dabo inherited a mediocre team that was on no ones radar. They were losing to Wake Forest back then. I'm sure they'd stick around now even if he wasn't easy to be around, but 10 years ago maybe not.

I know you copped to not being a long term football fan -- Urban made his bones at two places with zero history....Bowling Green and then Utah. 

Urban is a great coach.  I hated him at Florida,  but he is the real deal.  That Utah team in the sugar bowl,  I believe,  played unbelievable.

Everyone knows he was a great coach. Nobody here disputes that. We also understand that as good of a coach as he was (irregardlessof his time at Ohio State), he was equally as big of a dickhead.

My final two choices for college were Miami and USC.  Picked California over Florida.
