How big is difference? Can it clearly be heard?

I'm considering to buy the Boots of shows I went to in FLAC.

What if I buy FLAC, can I put it also on my Ipod?
Do I have to convert it to MP3?

Thanks for help!!

I know at least the 5th gens will play .wav, but it'll take up a bunch of space!

to the original poster: I DL the .flacs, then burn them to CD, then re-rip them as .mp3's for my iPod...best of both worlds!

Just remember, you can always convert a copy of your .flacs (.wav) into .mp3, but you cannot go the other way around.

Here's a good chart on the effects of compression (.wav vs. .mp3)

Yeah, but they'll fill up VERY quickly if you put WAV on them :)

I do the same as you... I burn FLAC to CD, and then put them into my ipod as mp3

The whole idea behind Flac is that it is, so called, "loss-less".
It is the same information as on the CD, but in a compressed format.
If you convert Flac into .WAV, you'll have the same quality as CD.

MP3 is also a compressed format, but in this case it is filtered.
A 5 minute song in .WAV format is about 40 Mb where the same song in MP3 format is about 5 Mb. By converting a song into MP3, you lose a lot of the sound quality.

If you only want to play music on your Ipod, I would recommend MP3.
If you want to burn a CD and keep the quality of the recording, you should use the Flac-files.

    I agree with Abneriel,
you can always convert Flac-files into .WAV and then into MP3 and use them on your Ipod.
