Hello everyone, we had this sparrowhawk on our front yard this morning. He was trying to capture small birds, I don’t know if he caught any.

What a beauty!Sparrowhawks are such a great example of the combination of both the beautiful and brutal aspects of nature. I used to live in an apartment that had a tall fence separating it from a field and a number of times witnessed a sparrowhawk consuming a rodent while perched on the fence. I didn't know they went after birds though! O, the strange, necessary cycles of nature!"It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -

Yes, one of the many within a couple miles of the house. Dune, forest area right off Lake Michigan. People are still allowed to go to parks and hit the trails during quarantine and I’ve noticed more people hiking, which is nice, but I prefer the trail to myself and the animals, lol.brianlux said:Post edited by Hi! onDetroit 2000, Detroit 2003 1-2, Grand Rapids VFC 2004, Philly 2005, Grand Rapids 2006, Detroit 2006, Cleveland 2006, Lollapalooza 2007, Detroit Eddie Solo 2011, Detroit 2014, Chicago 2016 1-2, Chicago 2018 1-2, Ohana Encore 2021 1-2, Chicago Eddie/Earthlings 2022 1-2, Nashville 2022, St. Louis 2022

I saw the fox and at least one baby pup ... got a picture with my phone but quality isn't worth posting. I'm certain of the area the den is although I wouldn't be surprised if she moves as foxes tend to do that. Got a great open spot about 150 yards away so I will try to set up a tripod and get some pics if the weather cooperates.Be Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0

I am disturbed. Here is maybe the most beautiful and big squirrel I have ever seen.... along with a massive fucking rat. :tired: This is right next to my apartment building, below my balcony. Noooo!

Odd that they are cousins. Squirrels are cute and mostly harmless but I have an absolute hatred of wild rats (partly due to several hundred dollars of auto damage a few years ago from rats). I saw a small dog on campus early one morning at one of the colleges I worked at in the early 80's. When I got closer I realized it was a huge rat. Head and body were easily 30 cm long. Freaked me right out!But that said, at one time in my life, the only pets I was able to keep were small animals. I had pet rats a few times and a mouse once (they only live a couple of years) and they can be surprisingly fun and easy to keep. Mine used to ride on my shoulder or sleep in my lap like a cat when I watched TV. But I must say, I'm far happier now having a cat!"It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -

Wow! That rat is a good size. Reminds me of the one max killed in our backyard about a month ago.PJ_Soul said:I am disturbed.
