    As someone who has followed and supported Amash vigorously for a few years, this is not the case at all. You can disagree with his positions, but what you see is what you get. He was calling for impeachment based on the Mueller report, which was way ahead of many Democrats.
    Who does he caucus with?
    Isn't a lone wolf now, voting with whom he agrees?  I don't think that distinction is important like it is in the Senate, as the HOR is generally not so close in numbers like the Senate.  
    I'm not sure but I wouldn't trust a former repub on something as important as this. It'd be a slap in the face to any capable/qualified dem. Its not about optics, its about putting forth the best possible team from your party's bench. I can see the spin now, "dems don't have enough ability, they had to appoint a former repub............"

    "Indies" are partly responsible for why we're where we are today.
    I think this is leaning so hard into politics-as-sport that you've created more of a palace intrigue fan fiction than anything resembling reality. Getting the votes to remove him from office was going to be an uphill battle to begin with. If they didn't even make an attempt to give it some element of a transpartisan body AND selected a guy like Schiff as the lead (who isn't respected outside of entrenched Democrat circles), well good luck. 

    I get frustrated about this because I want to see the dude gone. My hopes are now resting on potential Bolton testimony and/or this Parnas evidence to take root. Because short of that, Democrats keep torpedoing how this can be framed if he gets acquitted. 
    Entrenched democrat circles? Nonsense. Schiff has been a bright light in the democratic party. Unless of course you buy into all the Republican shifty Schiff nonsense.

     The GOP has been smearing him for a reason, he's extremely effective and competent. They fear him.

    It’s not the party or the individuals presenting the case, it’s the evidence they present and the repub response in their defense of Team Trump Treason. The fact that you’re focused on the “presenters” illustrate that their strategy of hammering the process and the presenters, rather than countering with documents and witnesses, is working. The coverup is on.

    Did you know that the house offered Team Trump Treason to answer questions with his attorney present before the full house committee behind closed doors? But the process was unfair and we need a former repub “indie” involved as an act of transparency?

    To clarify, I hadn't watched any hearings in a long time. Then I saw most of Kavanaugh, a bunch of Cohen, and some of the impeachment. All bluster and grandstanding from just about everyone on both sides - few pointed questions or real probing lines to get at info. Horrible. So this should be interesting.

    i agree this was a missed opportunity. i did not like him when he was a hardcore tea partier, but i have a lot of respect for him because he came out in support of impeachment based on the evidence.

    i think the dems may have not picked him because trump's defense team could go after him and say that he came out against trump because trump did not go along with some legislation he supported, or something to make it seem like he voted to impeach out of sour grapes or something. it would be too much of a distraction to the dems. i think they have a good squad here. they are looking to remove trump and i think this is the best squad they could come up with.

    As someone who has followed and supported Amash vigorously for a few years, this is not the case at all. You can disagree with his positions, but what you see is what you get. He was calling for impeachment based on the Mueller report, which was way ahead of many Democrats.
    i agree this was a missed opportunity. i did not like him when he was a hardcore tea partier, but i have a lot of respect for him because he came out in support of impeachment based on the evidence.

    i think the dems may have not picked him because trump's defense team could go after him and say that he came out against trump because trump did not go along with some legislation he supported, or something to make it seem like he voted to impeach out of sour grapes or something. it would be too much of a distraction to the dems. i think they have a good squad here. they are looking to remove trump and i think this is the best squad they could come up with.
    I think you nailed it Dems def don’t want any distractions against one of their prosecutors..

    When it comes to libertarians, I always tell my progressive friends to focus on the issues you have in common. You don't have to vote for them if you don't like the full slate, but there are definitely areas where you can work together.

    Look, I'll be thrilled to be wrong. That means he's getting removed or, at least, the trial really swung public opinion before the election. I am not encouraged thus far, though.
