What’s up with “striking the last word?” Which usually is “back,” as in “I yield back?” Saving ink and paper? Improper English? Redundant? Formality?
let's them have the floor again for an additional 5 minutes to speak.

No, whoever is speaking finishes by stating, when their time is up, “I yield back,” and someone else will ask that the last word be stricken and the last word is “back.” It’s driving me crazy because I don’t know why they do it. An extension of time to speak is yielded by the next speaker when they say I yield my time to X.
just what I just read on CNN dude.
Link? I’m not doubting you, just not understanding the context fully. I’ll google and see what comes up.

    Striking the last word:
A lot of representatives have said "I move to strike the last word" today as the House debates amendments. It's a maneuver that allows them time to speak. House rules allow each member five minutes to speak on each amendment. Since they're proposing a new amendment (a change to the text), they're given five more minutes.

  • Thanks for the links/copy. So how does debate get cut off? Does this go on forever or is there a pre-determined maximum time allotted?

I don't think so. not unless it's something so egregious it can't be ignored even by the losers in the senate.

If he is doing the same nonsense, I think you have to do it.  If you don't, you've lost the argument.  Losing the senate vote isn't necessarily losing the argument.  Ignoring it is.

exit polling at 144 of 50,000 locations. how accurate has it been historically?

when were they done? early in the day? reported while still open for x amount of time?

The “common person” feels marginalized by immigrants and wants to give a new direction power so they don’t think the economy is passing them by. Sounds a bit like the US to me.

As an example, historically strong labor Sunderland county vote is in. Although Labor is holding this seat,  Essentially labor is down 12% and that vote did not go to the Tories, it went to the Brexit party. They want out, they want borders, and they want their wall.

Lately I've heard a few pro-impeachment people say, "That would be great but if he is impeached I afraid the country will break out in civil war."

I honestly think that's nearly absurd.  Yes, there may be incidences of random violence (what else is new in America?), but give the average American the choice between going out and doing actual battle or staying home and watching Monday Night Football and stuffing themselves of Cheese Doodles and cheap beer, what are they going to choose?  I just don't see it.

"Hey Marge, I think I'm gonna go out and join the Pro Trump militia."

"But Fred, remember, today they have a special on Doritos and Ding Dongs at Walmart.  Should we really miss that?"

"Nawww, you're right Marge.  Let's get in the truck and load up on goodies!"

Civil war in America?  I don't think so.

I’m not sure about a Civil War...but I know this: the devotion is unprecedented. I don’t see him actually being removed, but if it were to happen I wouldn’t be going anywhere the next day.

Agreed.  No way.  It's a bunch of people who have seen too many Dirty Harry movies.
