Hitting the road for RED ROCKS in 4 days!!!

Have a great time  Derbydave and thanks again for the Jim James solo reviews last month. We’ve not seen a show at Red Rocks but did get
to visit that spectacular venue and all of the memorabilia in 2014 after the PJ concert.
    I'm sure we will buddy...
hitting the road for Denver first thing tomorrow morning!!
I saw MMJ at Red Rocks in 2015,
so kind of familiar with what we're going to see...
but my buddy that's roadtripping out with me has never been to Red Rocks.
He just got the info for the VIP BBQ pre-party...

Have a great time, Dave!  These are going to be great shows!

I'm assuming with no album to promote, they won't be repeating any songs over the 2 nights.  We'll see.

My Morning Jacket show #21 was just INCREDIBLE...
and I absolutely love Red Rocks!
Was out here for the MMJ show in 2015 & very happy to make a return visit.
This venue really is a special place and the sound quality here is almost perfect!
Don't know if I have ever seen the band play so well & you could really tell that they were all stoked to be playing together live again for the first time in over a year.
    The setlist was great...
highlights for me were Xmas Curtain, Lowdown, Golden, a FULL version of Run Thru, Master Plan & the closer for night 1...Mahgeetah, really fun show!
I don't know how they can top last night's performance...
    but after 20 plus shows,
I know that they will be even better tonight!!

Great pictures Dave. The earlier shot with the rock bluffs is spectacular as well. As I mentioned earlier in this thread we visited Red Rocks after PJ 2014 and were blown away....without even seeing a concert! That VIP preparty sounded like a winner too! Enjoy night two!!

maybe one day i'll get to Red Rocks. Seems like another instant classic shows from them there.

Heard Dondante from night one was 26 minutes long?

God damn!! That’s been their ultimate jam masterpiece since it came out. Was lucky enough to witness an 18 minute take on it in 2011, which I believe was the longest version at that point.

Hope they’re putting these shows out. Just a no brainer purchase.

My Morning Jacket show #22 was probably the single best show I've ever attended...
AND when put together with Friday night's show & the INCREDIBLE venue itself,
this weekend will go down as my #1 concert weekend ever!!
Never thought I'd attend an event better than PJ20,
but CID / AXS made the Red Rocks experience so easy for the fans!
From the VIP poster & credential pickup on Friday afternoon, the Hometown BBQ inside the Red Rocks Visitor Center both nights, and the early access to the merch stands...everything was first class all the way!
The show itself just blew me away.
This was probably the "heaviest" MMJ show I've attended...the band was on fire & you could truly tell how happy they were to be back onstage together again!!
Highlights of the show for me were the opening sequence Wordless Chorus into Touch Me - Part 1 and Off The Record, Evelyn Is Not Real, Picture Of You (first time I've heard that one live,) Holdin' On To Black Metal. Steam Engine, Big Decisions, Magic Bullet (another 1st time song for me) Phone Went West & Highly Suspicious!!
Just an absolutely perfect performance in an AMAZING venue with the BEST live rock band in the world at this moment.
I will travel to Red Rocks for My Morning Jacket anytime & I'm already looking forward to my next roadtrip out to Denver!!

MMJ is putting e.g Pearl Jam to shame with their jams. Such forward momentum and it feels so alive. I bet that Dontande was a great experience and never stale.

A pearl Jam Porch jam starts to wear thing after a minute or two.

COME TO SWEDEN MMJ. AND RELEASE AN EPIC ALBUM AGAIN.

Saturday was only my 4th MMJ show, but you could certainly tell it was a special one. An absolutely unreal setlist. As @derbydave stated, it was a fantastic opening sequence...also loved the back to back versions of Outta My System and Holdin on to Black Metal, and Highly Suspicious in the encore was just perfect. Would be almost impossible to top that as a first trip to Red Rocks, and this was definitely a top ten all time show for me. Looking forward to seeing the reviews from NY!

I wasn’t meaning to compare to PJ. I mean, from a jamming perspective they’ve never been in the same league and MMJ. I dig the longer improvised solos that PJ includes but they’re pretty static as a whole. I definitely don’t want to hear a 10+ minute Mike wankfest, It’s just not a strength of theirs.

Yes, ofc. A 26 minute Porch wouldn't be very exciting.

Compared to a 26 min Dondante

or a 26 minute Cortez the Killer

or a 26 minute Cornflake Girl

  • I kick my self for not buying Circuital when it was 12-13 dollars on vinyl. That damn deluxe edition (that I couldn't afford anyway) froze me up completely. And then the cheap ones sold out.
