    I hope they at least put together one more album and play some dates.  Something is better than nothing.

    i don't find them to be a nostalgia act. just a great rock band, where there messages are still relevant even in this ever changing world. look at dylan he has songs from 50 years ago where the message is till relevant. for whatever reason they don't want to tour like they used to. i think 2016 was a great tour with a good amount of dates. i was lucky and went to 4 shows. come out and do a limited hits tour, a rarities tour any tour. but if not i can only say it was a great run and always had great times travelling to different cities . personally i don't like stadium shows so i don't go. and by the way 2016 was way better than 2014 as ed's voice was far superior . his voice in 16 only started to give out by the last show in toronto. just my opinion.  so guys come back out , catch some fire, desire and show us all why we have loved the music for so long.

    I would rank Lightning Bolt exactly where it stands in the release catalog, dead last by a long shot. I highly prefer Backspacer and would like to write off the last decade of Pearl Jam studio releases (hell, even the annual singles have been kind of crap) and at least 5 years of live acts. 2014 was the last great tour with '16 being pretty strong, but a bit uneven. Stadium shows suck and setlist is getting old with too many standard covers dominating. Retire RITFW for god's sake and move Even Flow, Porch and Alive around more to break up the monotony. Play more No Code - Self Titled songs; they're all fantastic albums. The 2010's is the decade that truly has established PJ as a nostalgia act, which is unfortunate because I thought they had a lot left in the tank up until LB was released, but that album along with the long hiatus before and after seem to be the clear sign of where this band is when it comes to new music. That's not going to change and they're never going to be relevant again. Their time has officially passed. Glad I was able to be there from the beginning on and enjoy them at their peak.
    pretty much sums up how I feel.  I thought Backspacer was a sign that the band was moving back to short/punchy albums.  ones that were easier to produce and hence we would get more of them.  oh well.
    Back to short punchy albums? When did they ever make short punchy albums? Maybe Vs would fit that description, but otherwise they’ve done a good job of expanding their basic sound a bit here and there. I’d take that approach, which I think they used on LB, long before the dumbing down they did with Backspacer. When a song like Unthought Known is perceived as a highlight, you know that the rest is at best half baked.

    I am no stalker at all with this band and know very little of where they are at all times but ever since the Boston shows when exactly did they have time to all get together and put together an album?

    I suspect they probably are working on a new album, in one way or another, but I suspected the same thing last fall and I was wrong.

    I think that the point has been missed about the thread. It’s not to say the band is dead, or broken up. It’s just pointing that like all things in life, the best times are gone. Never again will we see the massive tours, even the semi consistent album cycle. The fan club singles are done. The set lists are more predictable. 

    The band will probably release a couple more albums. Shows will be sporadic. Less dates, bigger venues. We are lucky that they change the set list at all. And honestly, we should all be thankful and grateful for what they have given and what’s to come. 

    But it the point of the thread is to remember the past because their legacy is unmatched in my eyes.

    Supposedly soundgarden has a few Cornell vocal songs that are in decent shape but they want to clean up and have been told Matt is busy with "Pearl Jam commitments" for the next year or so

    The fact is nobody really knows. They are working on a new album. Who knows?  Maybe it comes out soon or maybe not for a year or two. Maybe they do a bigger tour or just a few stadium shows again. They clearly work at their own pace. I’m fine with all of this. I’m happy they are all still around and am confident we will get some good news in the next year. That alone keeps me engaged and excited. And although the last two records rank lower for me in the overall catalog they still had some excellent tunes on them (Got Some, Pendulum, MYM etc). I wouldn’t bet against them surprising fans with something phenomenal when they do end up putting out new music.

    What are we talking here though? Still writing or actually recording some stuff? They have probably been "working" on the new album for years now.

    Well, the purpose of this  thread doesn't seem to work very well.

    Anyway, for me the best days are not over yet.  I don't know  if the new album will blow me away like Yield, but I'm pretty sure my best  live experience  with them is yet come, because the one and only time I've seen them live was at a festival in 92... I really regret not going last year.

    Basically any time when we haven’t heard anything about any of them since last year.  Probably around the same time when threads like these pop up.

    Yield is such a great album. Always overlooked. 

    A festival in 92. That sounds like a great show. Yea. Seeing them live these days is still god damn great.

    Roskilde 92. But I don't really rememder it, I wasn't there because of Peal Jam (and not really because of Nirwana either). What you can find on YouTube seems to do it justice.

    Fortunately I was too busy to go in 2000. But that was also the last time they played in my hometown. I really should have gone.
