5 Song Pearl Jam EP for My Mom - Suggestions? (Update: Songs and Reaction Included)

So, long story short, about 15 or so years ago I was driving my mom somewhere and I had a live PJ boot on (I think it was a show from the 2000 tour). She said, "Who is this? This guy cannot sing." I was shocked and laughed, then told her it was PJ and Eddie Vedder was singing.

I brought this up to her recently, and she actually remembers saying it. I told her that I wanted to change her mind on the band (and Ed's voice). I told her that I was going to make her a 5 song CD, and she agreed to listen and give it a chance.

She listens to mostly NPR (back in her youth, she loved the early Beatles - not the older "raunchy" stuff, as she puts it (yeah, I know).

So, what songs would you suggest?

She's a fan of the original "Last Kiss" so I'm going to put that on there, but what else? I prefer the other four songs to be originals.

7/14 Update...

Here's what I went with:

1. Tonight You Belong to Me
2. Just Breathe
3. Longing to Belong
4. Future Days
5. Society
6. Last Kiss

If I was going to include, Last Kiss, then I could stick to just five. She came into town this weekend, so I gave her the CD.

I'll report back on her thoughts on the songs, and if her opinion of Ed's voice changes or not.

2nd Update 7/30...

Here's my mom's reaction:

"I have to admit, this is not the Pearl Jam I thought I knew. The lyrics are meaningful and thoughtful. Thanks for slecting some songs that would change my mind about Pearl Jam! I also take back that he can't sing. He is quite good. If you hadn't made the CD for me, I wouldn't have known."

    I think Betterman would be good.  It's a good tune for Eddie's vocals, got that pop song value, and I've never met a woman that doesn't like Betterman.  Indifference would be great to showcase his voice, but not sure if that's the style of song you're looking for.  Hard to Imagine would be a good one vocally, go with the Chicago Cab version.  Something like Light Years, Thin Air, Just Breathe, U, Down might be decent choices.

    Side note, last time my dad listened to Vedder's voice Hunger Strike was on the radio. Halfway through the song he blurted out (way out of character for him) "Calm down and get some damn food already!" Not a commentary about his vocal skills, but hilarious nonetheless.

    It seems like some of the slower songs might be better. Once she learns how this man can sing like a mofo, you can make another sample disc with songs that are a bit heavier. This will show her the range with which he can sing.

    I would also consider putting a studio version and a live version on each disc. Let her hear how great the live versions are too.
