Trail advocates Ferry County Rail Trail Partners have announced the auction of an autographed Pearl Jam
Guitar to raise funds for more trail work and to help fund a new outdoor
recreation festival called Get Out Fest, located in Northeast Washington.
“Those guys rock and have always given big to healthy, community
projects like skateparks and our rail trail,” said Whittaker, who has known the
band since the early Seattle grunge scene erupted in the late '80s. Whittaker,
who is also co-founder of the new Get Out Fest, went on to say, “100% of the
proceeds will go toward trail work, and will also be used to offset costs of
the festival in order to keep it free for kids under 18.”
Pearl Jam have been long-time supporters of the 25-mile Ferry County
Rail Trail that connects 4 towns, two school complexes, and boasts 15 miles of
waterfront. In 2016 the band donated $25,000 to help match a state trail
development grant. Front man Eddie Vedder requested that donation be made in
the name of Chris McCandless, a modern adventurer who was the subject of the
award-winning book and movie Into the Wild. Vedder said the
donation was also in recognition of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville
Reservation and their ancestors, who have walked the Kettle River valley since
time immemorial.
