I got a Baroque portfolio for Xmas. I do have to say the quality is outstanding. I filled it up and was able to still keep the giant piece of white foam inside to keep it even more stiff......anyone else do the same?
  • The frames aren't great, but I just got these handbill flyers that were already framed. They will hopefully get better frames soon.

Fresh from the framer.  2xl Harry Caray.  For the framing pros out there I would be interested in feedback.  I got this done at a local shop.  Guys been in the business for 30 years and does a lot of art restoration.  It's UV resistant, museum grade acrylic with acid free backing.  They don't make museum glass this large.  Mounted with acid free linen tape (NOT dry mounted).  He said the problem with a print this size is that it is super prone to warping.  It is mounted without a mat because he felt the mat would be create a large dead space in the middle.  That dead space would likely promote warping due to the weight and sheer size of the gap between the mat edges. Obviously touching the glass is a risk for adherence of the print.  I never see myself removing the print so I thought that was less of a risk than the odds of warping.  Just curious if anyone has framed a 2xl and if anyone had thoughts of doing it differently?

I agree with the mat warping the print, also despite all the chatter on ink transfers,  I've never actually experienced it or seen a picture of it actually happening to someone. I always use UV acrylic and another rumor is that the ink transfer is only a glass problem, or happens less to glass....

Anyways, congrats and I don't think you have anything to worry about.....enjoy it!

1200.  Majority of cost is the Museum Grade acrylic and the shipping for such a large piece of acyrlic.  I had him frame a total of 23 pieces.  Guy did it pretty close to cost.  Said he didn't feel right marking it up much because it was so expensive and I was more likely to walk away and not get it done. Said he was also thankful because my order was large enough that I helped him make his end of year budget. I was discussing it in one of the facebook groups.  Someone said Ame's cost to frame was 500 but I don't know what materials they were using.  The frame is 63 x 43.5 inches.

My wife and I were going to commission a piece about this size from an artist in New Mexico.  He said it would cost 700 to properly pack, ship, and insure.  It's super expensive because it has to go freight.  He actually offered to drive it to us from Dallas when he visits his brother.  If we paid 100, cost of gas, and a cheap hotel for the night he would drive it to us in KC.  Said his money was made in making the art.

I figure if Ames charges 500 for framing and a piece this big is 700 to ship, I came out ok.  Ended up with museum quality mounting.  Acid free backing, not dry mounted, uv resistant museum acrylic, etc.

To each their own I guess. I personally don't see why that poster has received so much hate but we are all welcome to our own opinions/perspectives/interpretations when it comes to art.

Just got these two back. Decided to go simple for the Fenway. Dark brown frame with off white paper colored matte. I think it turned out really well:

    2006: Hartford
    2008: Camden 2, Hartford
    2010: Hartford
    2013: Wrigley, Worcester x2, Hartford
    2015: NYC
    2016: Philly 2, MSG x2, Boston 2, (TOTD Philly 2, MSG)
2018: Prague, Krakow, Berlin, Boston x2
2022: San Diego, Sacramento, Las Vegas
  • I'm getting quotes for my Istanbul 2xl this week. Acrylic etc. My normal framer said it will be $350 minimum and she had to run numbers. I'll report back. Both framers I talked to said matting it would lead to waffling and didn't seem to think ink transfer with the acrylic would be an issue.

I don't mind Hampton at all.  In fact,  it's the favorite print of my wife and 20 year old daughter.  It's because our looks like art and not a concert print.  Good print,  great concert.
