Southeastern and Something More Than Free aren't solo even though they are both under just Jason's name. He made both albums with other musicians including some of the 400 Unit on Southeastern and all of it on SMTF.jjflash said:
He's definitely worth seeing, at least once, especially if you have a chance to see him play acoustic. Check out some his music first to see if it floats your boat. Over the past several years he's released a string of three albums that, as far as back-to-back-to-back jacks go, are as solid as any in the past decade, IMO. Southeastern ('13) --> Something More Than Free ('15) --> Nashville Sound ('17). The first of those two are solo, and Nashville Sound is with the 400 Unit which brings more uptempo rock and a little less Americana/songwriter. If you wanna check out live sounds...earlier this year he released a compilation live album put together over the course of a six night stand at The Ryman.willbarclay said:Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit are coming to Ottawa Summer of 2019 for Bluefest. Should I be interested? I've actually never checked out their stuff. What's it like?
Curious to hear what you think after you dig in!
I also recommend seeing Jason live. I don't see him as often as I used to (I am not a big fan of SMTF or The Nashville Sound) but he and the band are still very good live.Post edited by Yefa onYou see me empty, Sir, do not pause and inquire, simply assume and refill.

Very entertaining show! Relaxed and fun yet still on point; he can hit every note to this day. He was quite interactive with the crowd - walking up and down the aisles of the theatre, crooning to female fans, joking with people in between songs, telling stories, etc. Even brought people up on stage to dance during the encore. Played a little over 2 hrs. Small venue - a theatre inside a performing arts school.tempo_n_groove said:

It's shows like this that I enjoy. TY for the review. I was a big fan of his show on HBO years ago too.HesCalledDyer said:

I did get to see him in Nov 2017 so I shouldn't complain too much. However, he did cut the show short and left without a "goodbye" to the crowd. It's really too bad. Oasis music is fun music - Gallagher concerts are always a good time (as long as they actually occur).tempo_n_groove said:

Not much this year. Guess that happens when you have a toddler and have to pay an extra $50 for a babysitter.
 - Brandi Carlile
 - Neko Case
 - Blitzen Trapper
 - Foo Fighters
 - Trampled by Turtles (twice)
 - Lord Huron
 - Brian Fallon
 - Drive by Truckers
Missed due to the kid having hand, foot and mouth disease: Hinterland Music Fest (Sturgill Simpson, Band of Horses, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Sweats, Chvrches, etc...).
As for Brandi Carlile. My wife is a mega Brandi fan, so I’ve seen her a few times. Always thought she was a good performer, but this time I was blown away. She and her band may be one of the best touring acts out there. Go see her if you can.0

I recently had a friend check out my setlist.fm list and she said, "You have a few years gap." "Yes, I was busy being mom."jerparker20 said:Not much this year. Guess that happens when you have a toddler and have to pay an extra $50 for a babysitter.

Our kiddo had a suppressed immune system due to birth status (adopted) and that killed concerts for a while. It's all good though. You'll be going to concerts with your kiddo sooner than you think.

I always liked Brandi Carlile, but never really dug deep into her music. That was until her newest album, By the Way, I forgive you - that has blown me away. Easily my favourite album of 2018 and I have found myself going back through her catalogue. Unfortunately she doesn't have any plans to tour Australia as yet, but I will be there if she does come her.jerparker20 said:Not much this year.
