Been streaming the Milton Keynes show today. Sounds pretty good, but I feel like the recording lacks depth on the instruments and is a bit hollow sounding. The BBC sessions sounded fabulous.
    It's a hopeless situation...

The BBC was pretty famous for their inferior recording setup. I noticed it on the early REM show from the 80s too.

Hopefully they got it updated before the 99 show. haven't listened to that one yet.

Well, I switched to the '99 Glastonbury show and wow, what a difference! They sound fantastic. Stipe's vocals are top notch, guitars are up front and strong and the trio of Walk Unafraid, Star 69 and Finest Worksong is a high point in the set.

that was a fun tour. can't wait to hear that version of Worksong. When I saw them in ATL 1999 they had a phaser/flanger on Peter's guitar during guitar break.... made the song awesome. haven't heard any live shows beyond the audience recordings I made from the Raleigh and Charlotte show. I might have to skip ahead to that show today.

Keep going back to that 1999 recording. Great setlist and sound. I've never seen REM live, but they sounded great. Stipe's vocals were so on point.

if you haven't already heard it.... check out the live album from the Olympia Theater in Ireland. It was a "live rehearsal" in front of a small crowd. My pick as the best live album they have ever released. The setlist was amazing for these shows.

I've been listening to it in the car everyday on my commute. REM are my fave band of all time. Enjoy, Chris
