Unpopular Opinions

What are some of the opinions you hold that most of the rest of us don't? A song we all love that you don't care for? Maybe you like Sirens? Maybe Matt Chamberlain is your favorite drummer.  Maybe you love Pearl Jam's music but not their concerts (what?).  Maybe you think they should play the same setlist every night (again, what?).    We all eat, drink, and sleep this band so much, I bet most of us have tastes that set us apart. Me first...
  • I really like Sirens. I like it better than a lot of very popular songs.
  • If I go to 50 more shows, I am content never hearing the following songs again: Elderly Woman, Black, Rocking in the Free World, and Daughter .
  • I made a ranked list of all songs from the 10 albums, Merkin Ball, and Lost Dogs and "Black" barely made the top 100 (98).  I think a big part of it for me is it's probably the extended song that I don't think should be extended...the extra few minutes are kind of a drag.  Bootlegs probably ruined this song for me.
  • I prefer reserved to GA. I also prefer outdoors (I think this is unpopular) and most prefer amphitheaters.
  • I do not own, nor have I ever considered owning, a poster.
  • It's hard to complain about the shows, but I feel they play too many covers. It should be one or two per show.

As a whole, Backspacer is one of their 5 best records.

I would be fine never hearing Dissident or Smile again.

Outdoors vs indoors I think is not that of an unpopular opinion. I love seeing bands outdoor and have the sun set during a show. I hate being indoors and be like "hey wait, there is the jumbotron and right.. yeah... were in a hockey arena".

I think many on here think they play too many covers, as evident by the... was it the seattle shows? Where it was like loads of covers. Personally I'm fine with it.

It's ridiculous that Seattle claims Jimi Hendrix as their own. Yes, he was born there and buried there.
But he also had to go to Europe to get some respect and get "discovered".  Because Seattle would have nothing to do with him at the time.

Sorry, it was correctly pointed out that this is on The Porch and should therefore be all about Pearl Jam's music.
Did not note what forum it was in when I responded with my unpopular opinion about others' opinions.  :)

    On PJ's music:
Can't Deny Me is a good song.
Backspacer & Lightning Bolt are NOT the two lowest listed albums on the released by Pearl Jam album rankings.
Bee Girl is really, really, bad.
Parachutes is right there with Bee Girl.

I also thoroughly enjoy Sirens!  Maybe it just hits close to home with me, and reminds me to appreciate what’s in front of you before you’re/it’s gone

Umm... I thought this was about music?

I do not like "Crazy Mary." I do not like it in a box, I do not like it with a fox. I do not like it in GA, I do not like it at Fenway. I do not like it here or there. I do not like it anywhere.

Sick to death hearing about Dave A.

The Yield tour was the least impressive of the period 1994 through 2006.

Lightning Bolt is a much better record than most are willing to accept/admit.

His eminence has yet to show.

I would love to hear a concert where they literally play all the radio hits and some covers. Just once, the crowd (majority not fan club members) would be BLOWN AWAY. They’re already blown away when they don’t know half the songs. I know that’s taboo around here

Sirens is fucking amazing. McCready wrote he music so you know it’s already good. The words mean a lot, we’re not angry little teens and young 20 somethings anymore. I don’t need the anger all the time

i also prefer reserved to GA. I’m too old to be wasting time trying to get on the rail. I’ll take my reserved seat just behind the back of GA anyday.
Same goes for Merch, it was fun when you got something for yourself, now people are buying for everyone, especially people that are not even at the show?!? and those extras usually end up being sold at extremely high prices to people who were at the show and wanted some memorabilia. I think Wrigley 2013 is when this trend started and it’s insane to me.

Dave Grohl should stick to drums.  He's one of the best drummers and worst guitarists out there.

-- I, too, prefer outdoor shows.
-- Of the Earth is a decent song, but easily the most overrated and overhyped of the band's catalog.
-- Other songs I don't quite understand all the love for - Black, Marker in the Sand, The End
-- I wish Yellow Ledbetter would be retired forever
-- Songs most hate/don't care for but I enjoy - The Fixer, Ole, My Father's Son, Just Breathe, Sleeping By Myself, Can't Deny Me
-- Dave A isn't as relevant as people think
-- Backspacer and Lightning Bolt are underappreciated
    -- Covers are awesome
-- Nirvana (aside from Nevermind), Soundgarden (aside from Superunknown), Mudhoney, & Sleater-Kinney make hardly any music I want to listen to

Oh, that is a great one for me to add:
Mudhoney is an assault on my ears, and not in any way good.

    - I think they should get back to having (good) opening bands
    - I don't like this idea fans do of  "checking off" songs - like collecting cards from Topps.
    - I don't think (from the boots) that the MSG shows through the years have been "all that"
    - Boston 2010 is one of their best shows/boots
    - I've never fallen for Come Back. Sirens > Come Back
    - I think No Code is, relative to the other albums, kind of a drag to put on most of the time
    - I don't like the "two opening songs" openings they've done since 2013 or whenever that started. I don't have a problem with "Release > low light" but "Release > Long Road" and such does not work.
    - I don't think Pearl Jam should adhere to "limited edition" and such tactics to sell more merch or to do it like everyone else does. Release quality stuff and make it available for those who want it.
    - I think they should release some Pearl Jam boxershorts
    - They should get back to being more "Neil Youngish" instead of "Bruce Springsteenish" and stop with the gimmicks and staged stuff at the shows - like throwing out 20 tambourines and going down to the crowd etc.
    - Riot Act is perfect and I wish they would have dvelved even deeper on that path for future albums
    - Turn your back on the fans again, go experimental and stop with the fun-for-the-whole-family-thing.
